    Hi Vinay,

My PF account was closed as I withdrew all money. So it must have closed. This happened in 2013. So now I am joining another company and they need PF statements. So how do i access the same?

Above inoperative account link isnt there on epfo site. Can you help?

  • Vinay says:

    Hi Sreekanth,

I started my professional carrier from DEC-2005 and I didn’t check or need to download any statements till date from EPFO portal.

Now HR of new employer require all PF statements from year 2005 to 2023. But the PF statements available from 2009 only in EPFO portal by showing some amount as Opening Balance (OB). I also checked with some of my colleagues that I worked with and they are also getting the same way (from 2009). So I thought like, as the EPFO portal is available to public from year 2014 and they are maintaining only past 5 years data from 2014 (i.e., 2009) in EPFO portal.

So my query is, how can I get these past years PF statements from 2005 to 2009? I also raised a grievance request in EPFO grievance portal. Could you please suggest what else I can do to resolve my issue?

    Thank you

      Dear Vinay,
Did you work with multiple employers during 2005 to 2014?
Do you have the Final Settlement certificate(s) issued by those employers? Do you have the respective pay slips with you?

      • Vinay says:

        Hi Sreekanth,

Thanks for your reply. Below are my responses.

a). Did you work with multiple employers during 2005 to 2014?
No, I worked for same employer from Dec-2005 to Mar-2019.

b). Do you have the Final Settlement certificate(s) issued by those employers? Do you have the respective pay slips with you?
Yes, I have pay slips, but for some years i don’t have for all months.

I also requested for statement with EPFO office, Hyderabad. But they are also said like no statements provided and check details online only.

Also want to know is my below statement is valid?
“The EPFO portal is available to public from year 2014 and they are maintaining only past 5 years data from 2014 (i.e., 2009) in EPFO portal.”

        Thank you.

          Dear Vinay,
I am not very sure about the year (2009)..
Kindly let your new employer know about the availability of the data on epfo portal, I am sure the HR must be aware of this fact.
You can try submitting your pay slips that reflect your EFP contributions.

Try getting an Annexure-K statement through EPFO portal.

    Hi Sreekanth,

I have an inoperative PF account from my previous company which I quit back in 2010. I did not transfer my PF to the new company and thus it’s not linked to my UAN. I have inquired and tried a lot of different ways to withdraw or transfer with success. I have contacted my previous company for help and been redirected to the epfo website. I have tried the epfo website to link my account but get the error that my dob, fathers name etc doesn’t match, went back to previous company but got no help. I have raised grievance with PF office and also sent messages to their WhatsApp number. Everyone seem to redirect me to the other side. So right now I have no direction to follow, could you please suggest what else I can do. Thank you

    Hi Sreekanth,

Great article on EPF, appreciate your efforts!

    My question as below.

I have left the organization last Nov 2021, so no further contribution from employer side till now. Further I’m planning to pursue on my passion so ideally this account may not get employer contribution in future. In this scenario, what is the process to keep the existing balance (current age 46, balance EPF 38L) till retirement age (58) at the same time account should be operative/active and get the yearly interest till the retirement age. Also please suggest how much accumulation will be there at the age of 58 based on current EPF balance. Do I need to withdraw partial amount (say Rs25,000 against child education or medical support) once in 3 years till my retirement age?

Appreciate your time and support on my query. Please do let me know if you need further information.

    Regards,
    Jagan

  • Ash says:

    Dear Sreekanth,

I really need your advice. I have been working since 2010. I had a PF account with an organisation for 3 years. At that time there was no UAN concept. After 2014 UAN came and I had another PF account for 4.5 years. Lastly, I had recently joined and left a company in 5 months. I have been able to transfer all the PF from 2010-2013 and 2015-2019 into the current PF account. But the challenge is that when I am trying to withdraw the money it is showing my work experience as only 5 months of my current company and not taking into account my work experience from 2010. In this way I will end up paying 10% tax. Can you please suggest me the way so that I can make sure that PF department takes into consideration my total work experience.

    Hello Srikanth
Thank you for your blog and your efforts in advising people in the comments

i worked for infosys from 2010 till 2015 and dint withdraw my PF , worked in 3 companies after that
    i am unemployed now.
Infosys is askin me every 3 months to withdraw my PF and my account is inoperative , else it gets credited to senior welfare fund

with the change in inoperative account definition from 2016,how does it affect this senior welfare fund rule?

    • Sreekanth Reddy says:

      Dear Niraj,
      Thanks for the appreciation!
Ideally EPF or Pvt trusts follow the same rules.
However, suggest you to transfer the fund from Infosys Pvt trust to your latest EPF account.

Kindly note that the interest accumulated during non-contribution phase is a taxable income.

        Hello Srikanth

        Thanks for the reply

Can you please tell me about the senior welfare fund rule becoz they are threatening they will send the total amount there?

As per EPF rule, they should manage my account till my retirement age of 55

again what they said in the latest mail.. that my account is inoperative and without UAN too

        • Sreekanth Reddy says:

          Dear Niraj,
One should claim one’s money from the dormant EPF account within 7 years of dormancy, otherwise, the money will be deposited into the Senior Citizen Welfare Fund by the EPFO.

After 3 years of no contributions, the EPF account is declared ‘in-operative.’ However it continues to earn interest at the rate declared by the EPFO for active EPF accounts. However additional paperwork is required to revive an inoperative EPF account or to withdraw from it.

After 7 years of no contributions, the EPF balance is transferred to the ‘Senior Citizens Welfare Fund.’ In this case, the EPF balance continues to earn interest, but at a different rate from that declared by the EPFO.
You can still claim your money from the Senior Citizens Welfare Fund, but proving ownership becomes a lot harder, especially if your ex-employer has failed to maintain proper records.

After 25 years in the Senior Citizens Welfare Fund (and hence 32 years of no contributions), your EPF balance is forfeited to the Government of India. This event is called ‘escheat’ in legal terminology.

    Hello Sreekanth
I worked in my first company from April 2008 – August 2014. My company had opened a pf account then. When I joined my second job where I worked from August ’14 to March 2015, they opened another account. I am not working in any corporation since then. As of now I want to withdraw both my pf amounts. I have activated the UAN of my last company. How can I link the previous account with the current UAN? Also will I get the pf amount of the first company as 7 it’s dormant for almost 7 years.
    Thank you

    Hi Sreekanth,

I was employed int 4 different companies from 2003 to 2014. I have left India for a job abroad. Since then I do not have any active PF accounts in India. Recently I have initiated PF withdrawal process with all 4 companies ( says 1st, 2nd , 3rd and 4th

Latest employer (4th one) alloted UAN and in the process of settlement.

Now 1st employer asking me to transfer PF to the existing UAN number (allotted by 4th company).

But here is my concern, since UAN number created by the 4th company and I am not currently employed, how to transfer 1st company’s PF to the 4th company’s account?

And one more point here, I do not see the PF details of the 1st company on EPFO portal when I login with 4th company UAN or even when I search with 1st company PF account details.

How do I resolve this issue? Can I see my PF details with 1st employer on EPFO portal ?

    Thank you.

Hi Sreekanth, you have captured most of the scenarios. I was employed from 2003 till 2012 for company A. I have withdrawn my PF once I quit company A. Later I worked for company B from 2012 till 2016, have UAN set up with my new PF number, I am trying to withdraw now and has levied TDS as it considers only 4 years of employment without considering my employment with company A. Can you please let me know if there is a way to let epfo know about my years of employment before UAN.

    • San says:

my situation is also same, when I login with last company’s UAN number I don’t see all previous companies record. as i understand if the total employment period is less than 5 years I have to pay 30% tax on withdrawn amount, my total employment with all employers are more than 5 years but since I am just seeing last employment record in EPFO its 1 year, I raised a grievance ticket with EPFO, they sent one PDF attachment showing me all the employment details in their Ledger (this is correct) but when I login to EPFO portal I still see only last employer record who allocated me the UAN, can any one help here?
