The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has around Rs.27,000 crore lying in inoperative accounts. There are chances that a small portion of this unclaimed money is yours. Many employees feel that the EPF account transfer is a cumbersome process and is a painful experience. It is often observed that we just ignore to transfer the funds to the existing EPF account.
EPFO do not pay interest on the EPF account, where no contributions (no activity) have been received for 36 or more months continuously. EPFO considers this type of account as an ‘Inoperative EPF Account.’ It is a daunting task to trace an inoperative EPF account and also we hardly get any help or support from EPFO.
In this post, let us understand – How to trace an inoperative EPF account? How to trace an old Employee Provident Fund a/c? What is EPFO’s online inoperative EPF account help-desk? What is the procedure to submit an online request?
Now, things are changing for the better at EPFO. It’s a good time to remember your long forgotten EPF account. And to make your job of staking a claim easier, an EPFO inoperative account online helpdesk has been launched recently.
Trace & track your Old & Inoperative EPF account using EPFO’s Inoperative Account Help Desk
The helpdesk works on the basis of how much and how accurate is the information that you can provide about your old / dormant EPF account(s). So, the more you provide, the better it is.
- Visit epfindia portal and click on ‘Inoperative A/c Helpdesk’ link.
- This will take you to ‘EPFO helpdesk website.’
- Click on ‘first-time user’.
- You have to provide a small description of your problem and click on ‘next’ button.
- In the next screen, you have to provide your old employment details. These details are like – your old company (establishment) code, PF account number, company address, date of joining etc.,You may use ‘search establishment’ option to get your old company details. (I believe that it is not mandatory to provide all the details. But, provide as much information as possible). Click on ‘next’ button.
- In the next page, you will be asked to enter your personal details like – your name, mobile number, date of birth, email id etc., Note that mobile number and name are mandatory fields. You can also enter your Aadhar number, PAN number and Bank account Details.
- Once you have keyed in the required information, click on ‘Generate PIN’. You will receive PIN on your mobile number. You need to enter this PIN to get the ‘Reference number’ on the screen. Kindly save the reference number for future use. ( In-case if you forget the reference number, you can get it, provided you have entered your DOB while submitting your personal details)
After submitting the request to the helpdesk, your query will be forwarded to the concerned EPFO’s Field Officer (Regional office). This happens if you have provided your old company’s code (Establishment code). If you have not provided the establishment code, your query is routed to the centralized EPFO helpdesk. They will call you to get more details and then your query will be forwarded to the concerned field officer to trace the old & inoperative EPF account.

How can I check the status of my request on EPF Inoperative Account Helpdesk online portal?
EPFO helpdesk portal has a facility to track the status of your request(s), based on the reference number.
- Visit EPFO helpdesk portal.
- Click on ‘Existing User’.
- It takes you to a new window as below and click on ‘Login’ as ‘Registered Member.’ Enter the reference number and mobile number to check the status of your request.
- If you have forgotten the reference number, click on ‘Forgot reference no’. In the next screen, you have to enter the mobile number and Date of Birth to receive your reference number.
Once your account is traced by the EPFO’s field officer, you will be notified through an SMS. You need to either withdraw the monies (by submitting Form 9) or transfer your old EPF account to your current EPF account.
If you are currently employed and have activated your Universal Account Number (UAN), link the old EPF account with your current EPF Account. Once the linking is complete, you can transfer the EPF funds online.
Trace and track your old EPF accounts. Even if the amount of your claim is small, reclaim it NOW. Kindly share your views on EPF inoperative EPF account help-desk facility. Cheers!
Latest Update (30-March-2016) : The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has decided to provide Interest on Inoperative Accounts from 1st April, 2016.
Latest News (31-Oct-2016) : ‘Rate of Interest on Inoperative EPF accounts’ – EPFO to pay 8.8% as interest on Inoperative EPF (Employee Provident Fund) accounts. In case of EPF, if there is no contribution paid during the last 36 months, then that account is classified as “inoperative”. The inoperative accounts are not being paid interest since 2011. Around Rs 42,000 crore is lying in “inoperative accounts” across the country. About 9.70 crore employees will benefit from this proposed notification. Henceforth, the concept of Inoperative accounts will cease to exist. (Source : PTI & Union Labour Ministry)
Latest update (16-Nov-2017) : If an employee who is a member of EPF scheme, quits or retires from his employment and continues holding the accumulated PF balance, he/she has to pay tax on interest from the date of unemployment. So, the interest on EPF is tax-exempt only when the member is employed and the Interest credited to an employee provident fund (EPF) account after an individual ceases to be in employment is taxable in his/her hands in the year of credit. Interest that has been accrued post employment is taxable. This is as per the recent order by Income tax appellate Tribunal.

Hi Vinay,
My PF account was closed as I withdrew all money. So it must have closed. This happened in 2013. So now I am joining another company and they need PF statements. So how do i access the same?
Above inoperative account link isnt there on epfo site. Can you help?
Hi Sreekanth,
I started my professional carrier from DEC-2005 and I didn’t check or need to download any statements till date from EPFO portal.
Now HR of new employer require all PF statements from year 2005 to 2023. But the PF statements available from 2009 only in EPFO portal by showing some amount as Opening Balance (OB). I also checked with some of my colleagues that I worked with and they are also getting the same way (from 2009). So I thought like, as the EPFO portal is available to public from year 2014 and they are maintaining only past 5 years data from 2014 (i.e., 2009) in EPFO portal.
So my query is, how can I get these past years PF statements from 2005 to 2009? I also raised a grievance request in EPFO grievance portal. Could you please suggest what else I can do to resolve my issue?
Thank you
Dear Vinay,
Did you work with multiple employers during 2005 to 2014?
Do you have the Final Settlement certificate(s) issued by those employers? Do you have the respective pay slips with you?
Hi Sreekanth,
Thanks for your reply. Below are my responses.
a). Did you work with multiple employers during 2005 to 2014?
No, I worked for same employer from Dec-2005 to Mar-2019.
b). Do you have the Final Settlement certificate(s) issued by those employers? Do you have the respective pay slips with you?
Yes, I have pay slips, but for some years i don’t have for all months.
I also requested for statement with EPFO office, Hyderabad. But they are also said like no statements provided and check details online only.
Also want to know is my below statement is valid?
“The EPFO portal is available to public from year 2014 and they are maintaining only past 5 years data from 2014 (i.e., 2009) in EPFO portal.”
Thank you.
Dear Vinay,
I am not very sure about the year (2009)..
Kindly let your new employer know about the availability of the data on epfo portal, I am sure the HR must be aware of this fact.
You can try submitting your pay slips that reflect your EFP contributions.
Try getting an Annexure-K statement through EPFO portal.
Hi Sreekanth,
I have an inoperative PF account from my previous company which I quit back in 2010. I did not transfer my PF to the new company and thus it’s not linked to my UAN. I have inquired and tried a lot of different ways to withdraw or transfer with success. I have contacted my previous company for help and been redirected to the epfo website. I have tried the epfo website to link my account but get the error that my dob, fathers name etc doesn’t match, went back to previous company but got no help. I have raised grievance with PF office and also sent messages to their WhatsApp number. Everyone seem to redirect me to the other side. So right now I have no direction to follow, could you please suggest what else I can do. Thank you
Dear Vikas,
By any chance, is your EPFO regional office located near to your place??
Did you take help of your current employer (if currently employed)??
Hi Sreekanth,
Great article on EPF, appreciate your efforts!
My question as below.
I have left the organization last Nov 2021, so no further contribution from employer side till now. Further I’m planning to pursue on my passion so ideally this account may not get employer contribution in future. In this scenario, what is the process to keep the existing balance (current age 46, balance EPF 38L) till retirement age (58) at the same time account should be operative/active and get the yearly interest till the retirement age. Also please suggest how much accumulation will be there at the age of 58 based on current EPF balance. Do I need to withdraw partial amount (say Rs25,000 against child education or medical support) once in 3 years till my retirement age?
Appreciate your time and support on my query. Please do let me know if you need further information.
Regards,
Jagan

Hi, this link doesn’t work for us as to log a grievance one needs to mandatorily enter UAN no. which is not available for old PF accounts.

Note that your old UAN will get blocked.

Dear Sreekanth,
I really need your advice. I have been working since 2010. I had a PF account with an organisation for 3 years. At that time there was no UAN concept. After 2014 UAN came and I had another PF account for 4.5 years. Lastly, I had recently joined and left a company in 5 months. I have been able to transfer all the PF from 2010-2013 and 2015-2019 into the current PF account. But the challenge is that when I am trying to withdraw the money it is showing my work experience as only 5 months of my current company and not taking into account my work experience from 2010. In this way I will end up paying 10% tax. Can you please suggest me the way so that I can make sure that PF department takes into consideration my total work experience.
Dear Ash,
You can submit a grievance request to the EPFO and get the confirmation that your total service period has been updated.

Hello Srikanth
Thank you for your blog and your efforts in advising people in the comments
i worked for infosys from 2010 till 2015 and dint withdraw my PF , worked in 3 companies after that
i am unemployed now.
Infosys is askin me every 3 months to withdraw my PF and my account is inoperative , else it gets credited to senior welfare fund
with the change in inoperative account definition from 2016,how does it affect this senior welfare fund rule?
Dear Niraj,
Thanks for the appreciation!
Ideally EPF or Pvt trusts follow the same rules.
However, suggest you to transfer the fund from Infosys Pvt trust to your latest EPF account.
Kindly note that the interest accumulated during non-contribution phase is a taxable income.

Hello Srikanth
Thanks for the reply
Can you please tell me about the senior welfare fund rule becoz they are threatening they will send the total amount there?
As per EPF rule, they should manage my account till my retirement age of 55
again what they said in the latest mail.. that my account is inoperative and without UAN too
Dear Niraj,
One should claim one’s money from the dormant EPF account within 7 years of dormancy, otherwise, the money will be deposited into the Senior Citizen Welfare Fund by the EPFO.
After 3 years of no contributions, the EPF account is declared ‘in-operative.’ However it continues to earn interest at the rate declared by the EPFO for active EPF accounts. However additional paperwork is required to revive an inoperative EPF account or to withdraw from it.
After 7 years of no contributions, the EPF balance is transferred to the ‘Senior Citizens Welfare Fund.’ In this case, the EPF balance continues to earn interest, but at a different rate from that declared by the EPFO.
You can still claim your money from the Senior Citizens Welfare Fund, but proving ownership becomes a lot harder, especially if your ex-employer has failed to maintain proper records.
After 25 years in the Senior Citizens Welfare Fund (and hence 32 years of no contributions), your EPF balance is forfeited to the Government of India. This event is called ‘escheat’ in legal terminology.
Hello Sreekanth
I worked in my first company from April 2008 – August 2014. My company had opened a pf account then. When I joined my second job where I worked from August ’14 to March 2015, they opened another account. I am not working in any corporation since then. As of now I want to withdraw both my pf amounts. I have activated the UAN of my last company. How can I link the previous account with the current UAN? Also will I get the pf amount of the first company as 7 it’s dormant for almost 7 years.
Thank you
Dear Monisha,
You can get the funds from your old (EPF -1) account to the latest (EPF-2) account through UAN portal.
In case, online transfer is not possible, you can contact your first employer and get the transfer claim processed.
You may also withdraw the funds from EPF-1 and can submit online claim for EPF-2 as well.

Hi Sreekanth,
I was employed int 4 different companies from 2003 to 2014. I have left India for a job abroad. Since then I do not have any active PF accounts in India. Recently I have initiated PF withdrawal process with all 4 companies ( says 1st, 2nd , 3rd and 4th
Latest employer (4th one) alloted UAN and in the process of settlement.
Now 1st employer asking me to transfer PF to the existing UAN number (allotted by 4th company).
But here is my concern, since UAN number created by the 4th company and I am not currently employed, how to transfer 1st company’s PF to the 4th company’s account?
And one more point here, I do not see the PF details of the 1st company on EPFO portal when I login with 4th company UAN or even when I search with 1st company PF account details.
How do I resolve this issue? Can I see my PF details with 1st employer on EPFO portal ?
Thank you.
Sree
Hi Sreekanth, you have captured most of the scenarios. I was employed from 2003 till 2012 for company A. I have withdrawn my PF once I quit company A. Later I worked for company B from 2012 till 2016, have UAN set up with my new PF number, I am trying to withdraw now and has levied TDS as it considers only 4 years of employment without considering my employment with company A. Can you please let me know if there is a way to let epfo know about my years of employment before UAN.
my situation is also same, when I login with last company’s UAN number I don’t see all previous companies record. as i understand if the total employment period is less than 5 years I have to pay 30% tax on withdrawn amount, my total employment with all employers are more than 5 years but since I am just seeing last employment record in EPFO its 1 year, I raised a grievance ticket with EPFO, they sent one PDF attachment showing me all the employment details in their Ledger (this is correct) but when I login to EPFO portal I still see only last employer record who allocated me the UAN, can any one help here?
Hello Sir….My grandfather had been working In “National Rayon” Company from 1963-1973 period…We have their “Pf No, Employee No, Company Id” details….Can we recover the Money from PF account ?
Hi Sreekanth,
I was employed with a company in Mumbai, Thane in the year 2008. How can I know the EPF number, I dont see any inoperative account helpdesk on EPF website. Is it possible to retrieve the details as the company was taken over by Sutherland in 2010. Your response is highly appreciated
Dear Nikhil,
You can contact the concerned EPFO regional office where your account was maintained, they can help you!
Hi Shreekanth.
I was employed with a company that shutdown last year. I joined a new company and without any gap in employment a new pf account was set up. The salary breakup is such that the basic is very less and pf contribution over one year of employment is v small. Due to covid I have not received any wages since 5 months and this forced LWP is likely to continue in the foreseeable future.
I wish to withdraw my PF from my old company. (That is a substantial amount.) Is that possible since that company has shutdown?
Or will I need to transfer my old pf to new account and then withdraw?
What is the maximum I will be able to take out? Withdrawal under the covid category is not viable as the amount I will recieve is too less. Can I withdraw under the non payment of wages for more than 2 months category?
Please do revert as I am at my wits end on how to manage financially in the current situation.
Dear Anu,
May I know if your old EPF account is linked to your Aadhaar?
Are two EPF accounts linked to same UAN?
Hi Sreekanth..
Yes they are. Same UAN but different accounts.
Dear Anu,
As you are currently employed and contributing to the EPF Scheme, you can get the funds from your EPF A/c transferred to current EPF account and then can make partial withdrawal.
“The maximum limit that one can withdraw is 75 per cent of the PF balance or three months of basic wages plus dearness allowance, whichever is lower.”
Other Partial Withdrawal options..
Hey Shree,
Thanks for your reply. I have one final query, it has bee3n more than 5 months that I have received any wages. In this case how much PF can I withdraw and under what section.
Thanks
Dear Anu,
Do you mean to say that EPF amounts are not deposited by your employer ?
I left the company in 2015 but still i not activate or withdraw my PF . one main problem is i know my UAN no but i missed my mobile and bank ac no which is attached to PF.
Dear Pooja,
May I know what do you mean by – still i not activate ??
Dear Sreekanth,
I had epf with a private company between 1995 to 1997. I did not withdraw the PF after I left the company. Also few years down the line, I left India and stayed outside India for over 16 years. I recently returned and realized that I did not withdraw my pf from that company. Will my pf amount still secure with EPF? Is there any way I can regularize or withdraw that amount?
Dear Vasant,
Yes, it will be there..
Suggest you to kindly contact the concerned employer or EPFO regional office…
Thanks a lot Sreekanth.
Pls help
I worked in Two companies in India & not withdraw the PF Amount from there. As per your article I open the EPFO web site but it doesn’t show the link of inoperative account. Please advise what I should do to claim/transfer the amount from these inoperative accounts.

Dear Rajkumar,
If you are employed and currently contributing to EPF scheme, you can get the funds of your old EPF a/c to the latest one..
Hello Srikanth –
Still this helpdesk link is working to claim from Inoperative A/c?
I PF account is ended 2014 (DOE EPF). I traveled to US for work. There is no contribution into my account after that. I quit my job in India. I am able to login to unified portal with UAN number.
Can I request claim for withdrawl through online?
What will be your suggetions to withdraw my money?
Dear Vinod,
I guess ‘inoperative provision’ is not available now.
Yes, you can try withdrawing the funds through EPF member portal.
Is your KYC (Aadhaar/PAN) linked and verified in UAN portal??

Hi Shreekanth
I have been working since 2007 July and I’ve never withdrawn my PF. I changed my organization and had retained it. A new account under same UAN is now being used for my PF.
When I generate my passbook I see the updates are only from 31st April 2008. It is strange and confusing, why 2007 PF deductions aren’t included.
Dear Archana,
Suggest you to submit a grievance request on this to the EPFO vis this link..
Hi Sreekanth,
My employer created 3 pf accounts for me in single UAN for 3 years of service. Now when i raise partial withdrawl claim, they were rejected mentioning Multiple PF id were present and Name not matched against PAN and UAN.
DOE is updated for only one pf account and due to that i cannot apply for final settlement claim online. When i try transfer online, it says “previous and present establishment details cannot be same” error.
As per suggestion from PF office from multiple grievances i sent offline transfer claim forms with attestation because i don’t have any contact details of my employer as i quit my job in December 2017. Now that offline claim was rejected mentioning no attestation to the forms, But they were actually attested. Am not sure how to proceed in this situation. Kindly guide me on settlement of PF amount.
Also, the inoperative epf account link is not available in epf official website now.
Thanks
Bhaskar.
Dear Bhaskar,
If possible, you may try visiting the concerned EPF regional office in person and sort out this issue.
Are you currently employed and contributing to EPF scheme?
Hi sreekanth,
Thanks for the reply.
I am not currently employed in any company. I quit on December 2017. I am trying different options to withdraw since one year. But no luck.
The problem is I worked in a sub branch in Andhra Pradesh and it was closed . The base branch of that company is in New Delhi. Also, the pf office is in Delhi. Hence difficult to visit and sort out issue.
Thanks
Bhaskar.
Dear Bhaskar,
You may try submitting a grievance request (if not yet) to the EPFO via this link..
Hi sreekanth,
Thanks for the reply. I have raised multiple grievance for the same and I got reply to finally send the transfer claims in offline mode . But offline mode without employer, we need to attest the claims forms.
When I enquire gazette attestation is difficult to get on claim forms. No one is ready to sign as they say it’s a hand written form. Only the photo copy documents of govt proof like Aadhar, PAN card they will attest. Kindly suggest on where to get gazette attestation for claim forms.
If gazette attestation on claim forms is not possible to get, i don’t understand why the hell do the EPF department asking for it?
Normal attestation like officers from APSPDCL they rejected as it is not green ink attestation.
You can understand the frustration of employees to get back their own money from government. Since 1.5 year i am trying, and all trials we’re invain. Online they reject, offline they reject, mentioning all different reasons. After all, it’s my money.
Don’t know what labour ministry is doing with all the pf money from ppl like me, who got vexed of trying…
Thanks,
Bhaskar.
Dear Bhaskar,
Is your ex-employer in business? Are they still in operation?
If yes, why can’t you try approaching them?
I m still perplexed as to why they had created multiple EPF accounts??
Kindly check if a Bank manager (where you have savings bank account) can sign the forms?? I have noticed that they accept this..
Hi sreekanth,
My employer subranch in Andhra Pradesh is closed. No contact available to connect with main branch at Delhi and AP. Delhi main branch is operational till January 2019. After that no contributions seen to employees. But employer status is active and not surrendered pf registration to Epfo yet.
When we enquire about employer organization in grievance got these details.
I have bank account at BOI bank of India. The manager of BOI sign is acceptable?kindly reply.
Thanks
BHASKAR.
Dear Bhaskar,
Yes, it should be acceptable to the EPFO..
But, can try for online PF claim right??
Hi sreekanth,
Will try the BOi manager sign. Thanks.
Online transfer claim when raising is giving error – present and previous establishments cannot be same. When I try partial withdraw online, Epfo rejecting the claims mentioning multiple PF accounts were present with same DOJ .
Final settelemment option not available online because DOE not updated for all the pf accounts. Only one pf account has DOE updated.
Thanks
Bhaskar.
Dear Bhaskar,
Somehow, you need to get in touch with your head-office (delhi) and sort this DoE issue.
Else, may have to visit in person to the concerned EPFO regional office..
Hi Sreekanth,
After sending offline transfer claim documents offline mode with manager attestation as suggested by you, i didnt get update all these months. When i raise grievance asking update on transfer claim status, they mentioned that they rejected the transfer claim because of dame DOJ, DOE in both accounts. They told to submit Joint declaration form to update DOJ and DOE.
As mentioned earlier, I have worked in one company for 2 years and employer created 2 pf accounts for me.
eg: 06/2015 till 11/2017 is my total exp.
PF account 1 – ABC – from 06/2015 to 08/2016 and 10/2016, 12/2016 contributions.
PA account 2 – XYZ – from 09/2016, 11/2016 and 01/2017 till 11/2017 contributions.
There is a collision in contributions from 09/2016 to 12/2016.
1. In this above example how to update DOE of first account and DOJ of second account. Kindly suggest.
Also, i feel that Dual experience problem will come at the time of withdrawl/transfer if i update based on contribution date. Please clarify.
2. PF Office replied in grievance to submit joint declaration form to update my DOJ and DOE in PF accounts. employer is shutdown and not able to provide signature and authorization, how can i send Joint declaration form to PF office? Please clarify. Thanks.
Thanks
Bhaskar
Dear Bhaskar,
You need to kindly contact your ex-employer(s) and get this sorted out.
If your employer is not in business, you may have to visit the concerned EPF regional office and clear this issue.
Dear Bhaskar,
Also, note that EPFO UAN member portal now has the provision to update DoE by yourself..
What are the forms requires for offline inoperative accounts for final settlement. Kindly share those documents
Dear Fayaz,
You need to enclose copies of your PAN card, Aadhaar, Form 15g (if required & eligible)..Mention your UAN number and EPF account number on all the documents long with the Claim form.
Dear Shrikantji
I have applied in September 2018.
But have not received any response.
And now the links are not working.
Can you pl. guide me?
Thanks in advance
Nitin
Dear Nitin,
If possible, you may try visiting the concerned EPFO regional office (or) route the claim through your ex-employer.

I know my PF number and company’s establishment code so kindly suggest me how can I know my PF balance from EPFO portal.. my main details like my time of joining and exit, my emp Code, PAN and other basic details are with me except UAN of that time. Sir,Which are the ways from where i can get my total epf and eps corpus of working period?
Kindly revert.
Regards
Baldeep dhiman
Dear Baldeep,
I think, UAN was made mandatory since Aug 2015, so your employer (Kotak LI) would have surely created one for you.
Kindly check with them and get the UAN number.
You can also get UAN by yourself :
How to find your UAN
Go to the EPFO’s Unified Member Portal for UAN related services. Select the ‘Know your UAN status’ option under the ‘important links’ section. You will be redirected to another page. Here you have to input details such as current member ID or EPF account number, name, date of birth, mobile phone number and email. EPF member ID is printed on your salary slip.
Once you submit these details, you will get an authorisation PIN on the registered mobile number. On entering this, your UAN will be sent to the registered mobile number and email.
Hi Shrerkant,

If possible, you can also visit the concerned EPF regional office and apply for full PF withdrawal. (Kindly carry copy of PAN, Aadhaar, bank cheque leaf and Form 15G)
Thanks again Sreekant,
Ook your second suggestion is suitable now as my ex-employers r a very big house So there attitude and they r not cooprative.

And because of you are concerned about the all procedure. If Personally I visit regional office and apply for it then how much time moreover they took to sort out account’s full withdrawal.

Sir,
I have following Queries-
1) can UAN number be generated for Old In-operative Account for year 2007-2008 ?
2) How can I get Date of Joining and Date of Leaving details if my Ex-employer is lost.
3)If I Physically Visit Regional EPFO , The process of My Name correction if required may resolve in one day?
4) How can I follow up for above process and check the progress..
Dear sameer,
There used to an online provision to generate UAN by self with Aadhaar, but that provision is not available on EPFO unified member portal (for unknown reason).
Quoting an UAN is mandatory to make Claim.
However, EPFO has relaxed the provision that requires furnishing of Universal Account Number (UAN) for settlement of claims like PF withdrawal for all those who left membership before January 1, 2014.
Yes, you can also visit the concerned EPF regional office (where your PF ac is being administered) for final settlement. You can submit copy of PAN, bank cheque leaf & Aadhaar.
Online name correction may take more than 30 days.

2) How can I get Date of Joining and Date of Leaving details if my Ex-employer is lost. (For offline claim??)
3)The process of My Name correction may resolve through offline?
Dear Sameer,
For offline claim request, DoJ/DoE is not required. You can fill those details in the physical form (CCF-Aadhaar) or CCF – Non-aadhaar form.
You can visit the EPFO regional office and get the name correction request processed.
I am getting the below error while submitting the request to withdraw the my money from the PF account
“Error occurred on 03-01-2019 07:39:34, while submitting your registration details. Kindly contact Inoperative Help desk at io.helpdesk@epfindia.gov.in
Dear Balamurugan,
It can be a temporary tech issue.
Did you try again after sometime?
Else, submit your grievance to them via this link..
Or at the above mentioned email id.
Hi Sreekant, This is a chronic error.
I have tried all possible channels (except visiting the EPF office) to try and transfer my inoperative PF account to current active PF account and UAN.
1. Tried IO helpdesk (which eventually gives the error)
2. Wrote to IO helpdesk
3. Wrote to regional Office
4. Submitted grievance
5. Tried Transfer claim using my active UAN (which gives me an error that my previous and current account details don’t match)
I believe my old PF has an old phone number (which i currently don’t hold). Is there a way i can update my Mobile number associated to my inoperative PF account?
Dear Anirudha,
Did you check if your personal details (Name/DoB/gender) between your old EPF and current EPF account are same?
Is your old EPF ac maintained by your ex-employer’s Pvt trust? Did you try taking help of your ex-employer?
My bank KYC was incorrect both the name and the IFSC code so I added another bank KYC with the correct details. My employer approved the new bank details. I can see both the bank details (old and new) on the EPFO site using my UAN login and password. But if I try to submit online withdrawal it still picks up my old bank KYC. I asked my employer to delete the older bank KYC or to change the order or sequence so that the latest one is picked up. They said there are no options to delete approved KYC or to change their sequence or order on the PF website. I’ve raised greivance for this online but PF office insists that the employer has to do it from their side. Can you advice to help my case ?
Hi,
I believe that there is no provision to delete the entries. One can just update the details in the existing entry itself.
Kindly check with your employer on this..
I left my previous company around 10 Years ago in proper way, But i didn’t transferred my PF with my new organisation. After UAN service launched i added my current organisation detail but last organisation PF account was Inoperative ( Its still Inoperative).I tried through online portal to make it active but couldn’t succeed as it showing some error (In online portal). Please suggest me what should I do to activate it & how can i get this money by transfer/Withdraw?
Dear Darshan,
May I know what error you are receiving?
You may also contact your ex-employer (if possible) and can get the funds transferred to the latest EPF ac.

Dear Aravind,

Dear Sreekanth,
No i haven’t tried it as i am completely unaware of this . Now i will. Thanks a lot Sreekanth garu.
Dear Sreekanth,
I have tried for applying annexure – k, but in the grievance facility UAN is compulsory which i dont have it. I tried registering complaint by using others but i was not able to register successfully.
Dear Aravind,
EPFO had earlier relaxed the provision that requires furnishing of Universal Account Number (UAN) for settlement of claims like PF withdrawal for all those who left membership before January 1, 2014.
If possible, you may contact the concerned EPF regional office (where your ac is being administered) through your authorized representative or through your employer.
Dear Sreekanth,
Thanks for the info. My issue got sorted out with help of one my friend. Once again thanks for the swift response.
Dear arvind,
If possible, kindly share how the issue has been sorted out??
Would be useful for all the blog readers. Thank you!
Hi Sreekanth/ Aravind,
I’m also in a very similar situation.I have worked with two employers in India. I’m trying for immigration and need my old employment history for which the settlement was claimed. I have one of my PF no.linked with the UAN. But the other employment PF no.is not linked with this UAN. How can I do it? I want to get the other employment details. Kindly advice. I’m currently working abroad.
Thanks & regards,
Jino
Dear Jino,
You may contact your ex-employer and get the Date of Joining and Date of Exit for the concerned EFP ac updated, under your current UAN.
(or) you can also request for transfer of funds from previous EPF ac to the latest EPF ac.
Dear Sreekanth,
Thanks for your swift response. Could you please clarify ‘transfer of funds’ as I have already claimed the settlement from both companies. I tried to link my first PF account no.( no UAN available) with the UAN provided by second employer, but could’nt merge it using One employee- One EPF account option. I have the second employment details linked with the UAN.Is there any way to get the first employment details added to this UAN.
Thanks and regards,
Jino
Dear Jino,
Did you transfer the funds from EPF-1 to EPF-2 and then claimed total amount?
If you have just withdrawn the amount from EPF-1 and then joined new employer and then withdrawn amount form EPF-2 (if transfer of funds has not happened) then it may be difficult to get your old EPF account details linked to current UAN.
However, you may try contacting your old (ex) employer and ask them if it is possible to update Date of exit and Date of joining for the concerned EPF account under your UAN.
You may also post your query to the EPFO via this link..
In case, you get a resolution from them, kindly share the info here, can be useful to all of us here!
You may also try adding your old EPF ac using one employee one EPF account provision.

Dear sreekanth,
Not transferred the funds from EPF-1 to EPF-2 & i claimed it separately from both companies & received pf money few years back.
In order to provided secondary document (employment period proof ) for my immigration processing. Just one month back I activated by EPF-2 with 2nd Company provided uan . I got the passbook for EPF-2 & Found that the EPF-1 passbook is not available so, i try to link my EPF-1 to this UAN via one member- one EPF Account (transfer request)
It is showing transfer error : Online claim request cannot be processed as :
present employer has not made payment in your pf account.
my present account in uan is EPF-2 i have passbook for- EPF-2 , company provided the share also. why this error it is showing.
How i can solve this issue so that i can link EPF-1 to EPF-2 UAN
& provide my immigration agent employment proof based on the EPF-1, (i have all details for EPF-1pf no, DOJ & DOE) but this needs to be in the system Online .
I ask my EPF-2 Company to help
they replied : this transfer error not correct as company has already provided the share as you have the passbook.
he suggest me to put in the grievance & send to them Reg. no. they will forward to epfo office. but he not asked about the money claimed previously or not.
please suggest if pf money already claim then also we can transfer & link EPF-1 to EPF-2 UAN.
Please advice.
Thanks ,
Jino
Dear Jino,
As you have already claimed the amount, you can not get the funds transferred now.
You may submit your grievance to the EPFO and inquire on this.
You may also request for the Annexure-K for both the EPF accounts and this can be submitted as an EPF statement with all transactions.

Hi Srikanth,
I have been reading all your responses and very happy for that.
Even I have an inoperative PF account from last 6 yrs. I missed to claim it. I am trying to raise a request with Inoperative account Helpdesk but its struck at “Generate Pin”. Neither I get the pin or its moving forward. I tried several times. Will it work? Did it work for any one?
Also, is there any alternative way to get it withdrawn or transfer? Please help me.
Thanks in Advance,
Gayathri.
Dear Gayathri,
It works.
You may also try ‘consolidate EPF accounts’ option which is available after your login to your EPF UAN member portal.
You can also submit offline transfer request through your ex-employer.
