EPF Partial withdrawal (PF Advance) for Medical Treatment

An EPF (Employees Provident Fund) member can withdraw his/her PF balance partially for different kinds of purposes like ; for purchase of House / Flat, Site, Construction of house, to meet marriage expenses etc.,

An EPF subscriber can also take EPF advance for the purpose of medical treatment of self / family members. As of now, to make a partial withdrawal for medical treatment, a member has to submit a doctor’s certificate (medical certificate) along with the partial withdrawal form.

To add further convenience to EPF subscribers, an EPF member will no longer be required to submit any Medical certificate or any other certificate or document or proforma whatsoever to avail PF advances for medical treatment purposes.

This new guideline has been included and amended under paragraph 68-J or under paragraph 68-N of EPF Scheme 1952.

EPF members will now only be required to submit a self-declaration for the advance in case of illness of members/ dependents. Differently abled members will also get advance on the basis of self-declaration. No minimum years of service is required.
Kindly note that ‘self-declaration’ has already been included in the EPF New Composite Claim form.

New Composite Claim Form for EPF Partial Withdrawal

The EPFO has recently introduced single page Composite Claim Form for full / partial withdrawals. You can use these new forms to take PF advance for medical treatment.

  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar) : If your UAN has been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of withdrawals. The attestation of employer is not required and this form can be submitted to EPFO directly. Click on the below image to download New EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar).New EPF Composite Claim Form Aadhar Common PF Withdrawal form pic
  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Non-Aadhar) : If your UAN has not yet been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of PF withdrawals. The attestation of employer is required and the form has to routed through an employer. A couple of weeks back, the EPFO has also allowed its members to withdraw up to 90% of EPF balance for purchase of House / flat / site / construction of house.

It is nice to see these new initiatives being taken up by the EPFO but they also need to make sure that their online portals are up and live 24/7 (EPFO UAN based portals have been down due to some technical issues for the last many weeks). Also, let’s hope that EPFO will launch their online PF withdrawal facility soon 🙂

A word of advice ; Your EPF contributions / savings are meant for your retirement (long-term). So, think twice before you withdraw your PF money. Try out all the options and sources to fund your expenses or needs. EPF Partial Withdrawals should be your last resort.

Dear Sir, My years of service is more than 5 year. My employee share amount was 150000 Rs. I have already claimed once Advance PF for illness = 6 times my basic monthly salary = 6*10000 = 60000 Rs. through online proess. That is I have already claimed once 60000 Rs out of 150000 Rs my employee share in Dec 19. I received my first claim amount 60000 Rs. Now my Balance in Employee Share is 90000 Rs.
    so, my question is :
    1) can i once again claim for second time 60000 Rs. advance pf against illness from balance 90000 Rs through online process.,
    2) or is it that i have already consumed the option of advance pf against illness on online process, as i have already clamed once advance pf against illness = 6 times my basic monthly salary = 6*10000 = 60000 Rs ( Pls advise ).
    3) If i can claim for second time for 60000 rs = 6 times my basic monthly salary = 6*10000 , my question is how much months gap should i keep between 2 claims . My first 60000 rs claim was received in Dec 2019. so when should i Claim for second Advance pf claim.

    Please advise Sir

      • Bivash Sarkar says:

        Dear Sir,
When I Want to withdraw my Pension amount in below mentioned situations-

        1. Before ten years (If I do not want to continue PF with new job), is a single online apply / claim will enough for withdrawal all Pension amount of all jobs , or have to apply / claim separately for each organization with form 10C for withdrawal all Pension amount of all jobs .

        2. After ten years or after 58 years (If I continue PF with new job) is a single online apply / claim will enough for withdrawal all Pension amount of all jobs , or have to apply / claim separately for each organization with form 10C for withdrawal all Pension amount of all jobs .

        Please inform / reply.

        Thanking you
        Bivash Sarkar

        • Sreekanth Reddy says:

          Dear Bivash,
1 – If you do consolidation of all your previous EPF accounts (if any) and maintain one active EPF account then one single EPS withdrawal claim (Form 10c) is enough.

2 – You can not withdraw EPS total balance, you need to apply for Pension. Suggest you to kindly go through the suggested link/article in my previous comment.

If I take advance from PF for treatment of my mother then –
    1. Should I need to submit Doctor’s certificate?

    2. Should I need to repay the amount?

    3. My Employee share of Previous Company is Rs. 41329 & Present Company is Rs. 6602, I also transfer whole amount from previous to present Company and My current basis Salary is Rs. 9481, then how much amount I will get for treatment of my mother.

    Please inform me.

    Thanking you.

    • Sreekanth Reddy says:

      Dear Bivash,
As per the EPFO’s notification, there is no need to submit any documentary evidence. And there is no need to repay the advance amount.
But, have noticed that EPFO has asked for documentary evidence if the Partial claims are submitted often.

“For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.””

      • Bivash Sarkar says:

Sorry to say I don’t understand the meaning of “But, have noticed that EPFO has asked for documentary evidence if the Partial claims are submitted often.” – according to your reply, please elaborate what is the difference between partial claims and advance.
