My query is i have mutual funds holding in hdfc midcap and goal is to create retirement lumsum amount. When should i redeem if i wait for long and during retirement time if nav goes down my waiting period will again shoots up. So how long should i wait or should i start redeem little my little.

Is this the only fund in your MF portfolio?
If so, you may consider adding one equity oriented balanced fund and one diversified equity fund to your retirement MF portfolio. (Diversification)
Keep a check of your MF portfolio' performance once in a year.
If are young and have a very long-time frame for your expected retirement age, invest as much as possible in equity schemes and hold them for long-term.
As you approach the goal year, say before 2-5 years, you may gradually switch from equity schemes to Debt oriented schemes or any other safer investment avenues to safeguard your capital appreciation.
