Dear All, My father filed ITR for cash transactions done during demonetization in 2016. This was the first time he filed ITR. He is senior citizen and his income doesn't exceed 3 lakhs for current  year. Does he need to file the ITR as he is getting reminders from taxman?

Hello,

You must advise filling your income tax on the regular basis even if you come under tax slab or not.

Hi, It is not mandatory to file ITR if your father's income is below basic exemption limit. But, it is always advisable to file Tax Return. If he has been filing ITR then he may receive a 'non-filing of ITR' notice , to which he can just respond stating that he does not have taxable income. You may kindly go through below articles :
