EPF Partial withdrawal (PF Advance) for Medical Treatment

An EPF (Employees Provident Fund) member can withdraw his/her PF balance partially for different kinds of purposes like ; for purchase of House / Flat, Site, Construction of house, to meet marriage expenses etc.,

An EPF subscriber can also take EPF advance for the purpose of medical treatment of self / family members. As of now, to make a partial withdrawal for medical treatment, a member has to submit a doctor’s certificate (medical certificate) along with the partial withdrawal form.

To add further convenience to EPF subscribers, an EPF member will no longer be required to submit any Medical certificate or any other certificate or document or proforma whatsoever to avail PF advances for medical treatment purposes.

This new guideline has been included and amended under paragraph 68-J or under paragraph 68-N of EPF Scheme 1952.

EPF members will now only be required to submit a self-declaration for the advance in case of illness of members/ dependents. Differently abled members will also get advance on the basis of self-declaration. No minimum years of service is required.
Kindly note that ‘self-declaration’ has already been included in the EPF New Composite Claim form.

New Composite Claim Form for EPF Partial Withdrawal

The EPFO has recently introduced single page Composite Claim Form for full / partial withdrawals. You can use these new forms to take PF advance for medical treatment.

  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar) : If your UAN has been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of withdrawals. The attestation of employer is not required and this form can be submitted to EPFO directly. Click on the below image to download New EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar).
  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Non-Aadhar) : If your UAN has not yet been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of PF withdrawals. The attestation of employer is required and the form has to routed through an employer. Click on the below image to download New EPF Composite Claim Form (Non-Aadhar).

A couple of weeks back, the EPFO has also allowed its members to withdraw up to 90% of EPF balance for purchase of House / flat / site / construction of house.

It is nice to see these new initiatives being taken up by the EPFO but they also need to make sure that their online portals are up and live 24/7 (EPFO UAN based portals have been down due to some technical issues for the last many weeks). Also, let’s hope that EPFO will launch their online PF withdrawal facility soon 🙂

A word of advice ; Your EPF contributions / savings are meant for your retirement (long-term). So, think twice before you withdraw your PF money. Try out all the options and sources to fund your expenses or needs. EPF Partial Withdrawals should be your last resort.

  • Hi Srikanth - I have submitted request for partial PF withdrawal and got the rejected message stating " INSUFFICIENT MEMBER SERVICE./OK" . I have been working in present org. from past 4 years. Is there any particular period of time where I will be eligible for withdrawl. Moreover I have mentioned as "Contruction of House" as reason. Is this reject due to that?

    • Dear Ayaz,
Purchase of House/Flat through a Society / Housing Agency : If withdrawal application is through a Society then minimum years is 3 years. ( through a registered society or houses/flats being constructed through forming a society.) – Section 68 BD. In this case, 90% of EPF balance is payable as an Advance.

Purchase of House/Flat directly from a Builder : In this case, the Membership service criteria to withdraw is still considered as 5 years only. – they are referring to Section 68B.

For purchase of site directly from builder :
24 month’s basic wages and DA.

      For purchase of house/flat/construction:
36 month’s basic wages and DA
      OR
Total of employee and employer share with interest
      OR
      Total cost.
Whichever is least will be allowed as withdrawal.

Kindly read : EPF partial withdrawal rules & options..

  • Hi Sreekant, I was working in my 1st company for 3 yrs and my PF Contribution was 78500 Employee share, 26000 Employer share & 45100 Pension contribution Approx. Recently I have joined new company 4 month back and have got my 1st company PF balance transferred to my new PF account and same is successfully transferred.
Now I want to withdraw advance PF under illness. Will I be allowed to withdraw 1 Lac PF under illness. If not, how much approx max amount I can be able to withdraw.

    • Dear Mandar,
“For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”

      • Thanks Sreekanth,

Does that mean after 6 month completion , I will able allowed to withdraw PF for illness ? and Will I be able to withdraw 1 lac ?

        • Dear Mandar,
There is no time-gap requirement here.
The maximum amount that one can withdraw for medical treatment purpose is 'the least of your last 6 months basic wage or your EPF share + interest'.

          • Dear Sreekanth,

I Have applied for advance PF and my claim was approved and showing "claim settled" on UAN portal. But the amount was not credited to my account for 7 days. Hence I have registered a grievance and for same I got reply for my grievance as below.

Claim form-31 approved for an amt of Rs. xxxxx/- and was transferred to your saving bank a/c, but cheque returned from bank on 23/04/2018. You are requested to submit reissue proforma through your employer along with necessary documents duly attested by employer.

Could you please let me know whether I need to submit the reissue proforma through my existing employer or from ex-employer.

Also, if I do not submit the proforma, will my withdrawal PF amount remain as it is (credit back) ?

          • Dear Mandar,
You may route the re-issue request through your existing employer.
If you do not re-submit it then your amount gets credited back.

Kindly check if your bank account number and ifsc code are correct or not in KYC section of your UAN interface.

  • Hi Srikanth,

But it got rejected stating Father name dosen't match and i'm not able to change fathers name in basic modify details . Its giving me error stating Aadhaar is already verified. Your details aren't editable. Kindly suggest how can i change my fathers details. And if i apply for PF withdrawal for illness in how many days will i get the money. Kindly help me with quires.

    • Dear Keerthi,
You can submit joint-declaration form along with your employer to the EPFO. Kindly contact your employer (for father's name correction).
Online claims are generally settled within 10 business days and offline ones within 30 days. (But looks like some EPFO regional offices are not accepting offline claims..)

    • Dear Pratik,
You can mention the purpose of partial withdrawal as medical treatment.
“For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”

  • Hi Sreekanth,

I had applied for PF withdrawal online however my claim got rejected by EPFO stating the below points :
NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ADVANCE DUE TO INSUFFIIENT SERVICE
    NOT ELIGIBLE FOR WITHDRAWAL BENEFIT

Overall I have more than 10 yrs experience, however in my last organisation I had worked for 6 months only. Prior to my last company I had worked 1 yr 5 months in the previous organisation and the PF has been transferred to my current company.

Currently I no more wish to work as I have started on my own. So how do I claim my PF, kindly guide me on the issue and thanks in advance.

    Regards
    Anjanjyoti

    • Dear Anjanjyoti,
If your cumulative service period is more than 10 years then you can not withdraw EPS amount, you will get pension after 55/58 years of age.
However, you can withdraw EPF amount.
Have you transferred the funds from all your previous epf accounts to current one?

      • Hi Sreekanth,

        Thank you for your reply.

I have transferred the EPF amount to the current organisation.

I want to withdraw the amount, please guide me how I can claim the amount. Also since EPFO has rejected my first claim request due to the reasons mentioned, so can i again place a new request for claim withdrawal.

        Regards
        Anjan

  • Hi,
I have completed my 11 years in my current company and my basic salary is around Rs. 30000. my one of the relative which is financially very poor and diagnosed with Cancer. Can I withdraw my PF for the treatment of cancer of my relative ( relative is my fathers sister).

    • Hi Sreekanth,
Thanks for your reply but if I will mentioned self them how to provide the Hospital details to the company where as I am not having any medical problem. SO need your expert advice on the same.

      Thanks & Regards
      Anand Trivedi

      • Dear Anand,
Yes, if you be honest then you can not claim for the mentioned purpose.
By the by, do note that there is no need to submit any documents to claim partial withdrawal for medical treatment purposes.

        • Hi Sreekanth,
Thanks for your reply I have some more queries if you can please answer those that would be really helpful to me.
          1. As I am taking this partial withdrawals for the cure of cancer of my Fathers sister but unfortunately I have to show that any one dependent like myself, my father or mother is having this problem, but the question here is as my company is having medical policy where my all dependents are covered, so is there any chance my company will reject this claim saying that you already have the medical policy and please go through with that.
          2. Please provide me the Link of the form so that I can submit.
          3. As my company has its OWN PF trust, so how many days will it take to credit the amount in my account.
          4. whether company will require 24 hours hospitalization proof or not.
          5. Is the amount directly credit in my account correct.

          Thanks & Regards
          Anand

          • Hi Sreekanth,

Thanks for your valuable information. just last query as I mentioned that my company has its own PF trust then what is the procedure and what form I need to submit to them.

            Thanks & Regards
            Anand

          • Dear Anand,
Kindly contact your employer and they will provide you the required forms and the required guidance..

          • Hi Sreekanth,

Also is there any medical certificate needs to be provided by the doctor to the company. Please confirm.

            Thanks & Regards
            Anand

    • Dear Anand,
You can withdraw but you may mention the purpose of withdrawal as 'self - medical treatment', as this is for a good cause.

  • Hi,

I applied for a EPF partial withdraw, submitted my Form 31, after a week i checked a status its shown REJECTED due to INSUFFICIENT SERVICE. Please give me your suggestion how to rectify this issue.

    • Dear Gopinath,
May I know your service period?
Do you have multiple EPF accounts? and/or Did you join EPF scheme recently??

      • I transfered my previous epf balance to present company...my total service period almost 10 years but in current company I have 4 years..

        • Dear Gopinath .. That's strange!
May I know the purpose of partial withdrawal?
I am assuming that the transfer of funds from your old EPF ac to current EPF account has been successfully completed.

          • Yes, My old PF account transferred to my present PF account.

And I applied for House construction purpose.

We already enquired in EPF, then only i applied.

          • Dear Gopinath,
Did you apply for 90% of balance as withdrawal?
Are you planning to buy the property directly from a builder or through any housing society??

          • Dear Gopinath,
f you are buying directly from a builder then 90% of EPF is not allowed. This is allowed only in case if one applies through a housing or cooperative society.

  • Maine 25 jan ko claim k liya apply kiya tha claim satled b likha aara aj....But paise created nhi hue act mai pls koi btao esa q hora hai or paise kB tK ayega
