EPF Partial withdrawal (PF Advance) for Medical Treatment

An EPF (Employees Provident Fund) member can withdraw his/her PF balance partially for different kinds of purposes like ; for purchase of House / Flat, Site, Construction of house, to meet marriage expenses etc.,

An EPF subscriber can also take EPF advance for the purpose of medical treatment of self / family members. As of now, to make a partial withdrawal for medical treatment, a member has to submit a doctor’s certificate (medical certificate) along with the partial withdrawal form.

To add further convenience to EPF subscribers, an EPF member will no longer be required to submit any Medical certificate or any other certificate or document or proforma whatsoever to avail PF advances for medical treatment purposes.

This new guideline has been included and amended under paragraph 68-J or under paragraph 68-N of EPF Scheme 1952.

EPF members will now only be required to submit a self-declaration for the advance in case of illness of members/ dependents. Differently abled members will also get advance on the basis of self-declaration. No minimum years of service is required.
Kindly note that ‘self-declaration’ has already been included in the EPF New Composite Claim form.

New Composite Claim Form for EPF Partial Withdrawal

The EPFO has recently introduced single page Composite Claim Form for full / partial withdrawals. You can use these new forms to take PF advance for medical treatment.

  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar) : If your UAN has been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of withdrawals. The attestation of employer is not required and this form can be submitted to EPFO directly. Click on the below image to download New EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar).
  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Non-Aadhar) : If your UAN has not yet been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of PF withdrawals. The attestation of employer is required and the form has to routed through an employer. Click on the below image to download New EPF Composite Claim Form (Non-Aadhar).

A couple of weeks back, the EPFO has also allowed its members to withdraw up to 90% of EPF balance for purchase of House / flat / site / construction of house.

It is nice to see these new initiatives being taken up by the EPFO but they also need to make sure that their online portals are up and live 24/7 (EPFO UAN based portals have been down due to some technical issues for the last many weeks). Also, let’s hope that EPFO will launch their online PF withdrawal facility soon 🙂

A word of advice ; Your EPF contributions / savings are meant for your retirement (long-term). So, think twice before you withdraw your PF money. Try out all the options and sources to fund your expenses or needs. EPF Partial Withdrawals should be your last resort.

  • Dear Sreekanth,

Can you please guide on how PF department verifies the authenticity of reason for your advance claim (marriage, illness)?

    • Dear Raman..It is based on the member's self-declaration. No documents need to be enclosed/submitted along with the partial withdrawal claim form (for medical treatment purpose).

  • Dear Sir
I need a partial withdrawl from my PF for the medical treatment of my mother. She is not my dependent as per rules.
My father is getting pension. Can I get amount of 6 months basic and DA.

    • Dear Athar,
If we go by rules, I believe an EPF member can make partial withdrawal for medical treatment of dependent parents only.
If you require the money urgently, you may go ahead with the partial withdrawal (though I should not advise you like this), but health is more important!
Kindly read : EPF partial withdrawal rules and options!

  • Hi,
I had left my previous organization on 4th November, 2017 and joined new one on 20 November, 2017. Now when I am applying for PF ,there is only one option available i.e. advance FORM 31 . Wjy I am not getting any other option ? Moreover I have applied for advance payment under illnes category so how to camcel that ?

    • Dear navdeep,
I dont think there is an option to cancel the claim which is already submitted.
Mostly, your ex-employer might not have updated the Date of Exit under Services history menu tab. Kindly check with them.
If you are employed and currently contributing to EPF, you can not make full balance withdrawal.

      • Thabk you for your reply.
My previous pf amount was 8700(including employee and employers contributions) and 4500 amount was towards Pension contributions.
And I have applied for 10,000/- advance payment. And in my new company therr is no PF deposit yet. So would I get this 10,000/- applied sum ? And If yes then do I need to return this back ???

  • My service history for the previous organisation is not added in UAN. Due to this. I am not able to withdraw my PF amount for the propose of constructing house. I have followed with HR in my previous organisation. They say that the service history is added. But it is not reflected in UAN.

Can you please let me the process for adding service history?
Please note: I have transferred my previous orginasation PF amount to the current employer.
