1 - You may select a multi-cap fund. Ex : Franklin India Equity or Aditya Birla Equity etc.,
2 - Do you need this money mandatorily after 3 years? Can you afford to take risk on this investment?

Hi,
1 - For short term goal , you may consider investing in a Hybrid Fund + Short Term Debt Fund.
Ex : HDFC Hybrid Equity Fund, Franklin Low Duration Fund etc.,
(Do note that Equity Hybrid Funds are risky but not may not be as risky as regular Equity Funds)
2 - For Lump sum, you may create an STP (Systematic Transfer Plan) for say next 2 to 3 years and remain invested for 5+ years. Ex : HDFC Liquid Fund -> STP -> HDFC Hybrid Equity Fund.
Some portion of your lump sum amount can be invested in Bank FD, Secured & highly rated NCDs or Ultra Short Term Debt Fund.
