With the markets taking a deep plunge downwards, is it good to invest in MFs? if so which one are suggested, I am looking at longterm

As your investment time-frame is long-term, you can start investing in mutual funds now.
My suggestions would be :
Franklin High growth cos Fund / Birla Equity fund
HDFC Mid-cap opp fund
Birla Frontline Equity fund
HDFC Balanced fund
Franklin Smaller cos fund etc.,
