Hi Shree, i have a query related to HRA exemption.
I live and work in Noida. I have a self occupied residential property in Noida (no home loan). And my parents live in one of the cities of Punjab and I am paying rent for there flat. Please advise if i can show this rent and claim HRA exemption. If yes, then also please help me in understanding if the same any be claimed for any rent paid in delhi or gurgaon.
Please let me know if my query is not clear.
Thanks.

Hi,
HRA exemption can be claimed only if the rent is actually paid for the accommodation occupied by you and you should not be the owner/partial owner of the property.
In your case, you own a property and your living in it, at the place of your work location, so you can not claim HRA.
