EPF Partial withdrawal (PF Advance) for Medical Treatment

An EPF (Employees Provident Fund) member can withdraw his/her PF balance partially for different kinds of purposes like ; for purchase of House / Flat, Site, Construction of house, to meet marriage expenses etc.,

An EPF subscriber can also take EPF advance for the purpose of medical treatment of self / family members. As of now, to make a partial withdrawal for medical treatment, a member has to submit a doctor’s certificate (medical certificate) along with the partial withdrawal form.

To add further convenience to EPF subscribers, an EPF member will no longer be required to submit any Medical certificate or any other certificate or document or proforma whatsoever to avail PF advances for medical treatment purposes.

This new guideline has been included and amended under paragraph 68-J or under paragraph 68-N of EPF Scheme 1952.

EPF members will now only be required to submit a self-declaration for the advance in case of illness of members/ dependents. Differently abled members will also get advance on the basis of self-declaration. No minimum years of service is required.
Kindly note that ‘self-declaration’ has already been included in the EPF New Composite Claim form.

New Composite Claim Form for EPF Partial Withdrawal

The EPFO has recently introduced single page Composite Claim Form for full / partial withdrawals. You can use these new forms to take PF advance for medical treatment.

  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar) : If your UAN has been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of withdrawals. The attestation of employer is not required and this form can be submitted to EPFO directly. Click on the below image to download New EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar).
  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Non-Aadhar) : If your UAN has not yet been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of PF withdrawals. The attestation of employer is required and the form has to routed through an employer. Click on the below image to download New EPF Composite Claim Form (Non-Aadhar).

A couple of weeks back, the EPFO has also allowed its members to withdraw up to 90% of EPF balance for purchase of House / flat / site / construction of house.

It is nice to see these new initiatives being taken up by the EPFO but they also need to make sure that their online portals are up and live 24/7 (EPFO UAN based portals have been down due to some technical issues for the last many weeks). Also, let’s hope that EPFO will launch their online PF withdrawal facility soon 🙂

A word of advice ; Your EPF contributions / savings are meant for your retirement (long-term). So, think twice before you withdraw your PF money. Try out all the options and sources to fund your expenses or needs. EPF Partial Withdrawals should be your last resort.

  • Hi SIr,

I am Mehul Munge applied for partial pf withdraw for alteration of home in last month Aug 2017 but i got sms saying it got rejected due to insufficient service. I have completed 3 years. What are the other options so i can withdraw pf amount.

      • Dear Dinesh/Mehul ..If applying through a housing society or agency or cooperative society, the minimum service period for the said purpose is 3 years only.

      • Dear Mehul,
If you are applying individually then 5 years is the minimum service period for partial withdrawal towards house construction.
If application is through a society or housing agency then minimum period is 3 years.
I believe that for alterations/repairs, the condition is '5 years from the date of completion of house'.

Kindly read : EPF partial withdrawal rules & options..

        • Thank you Sir for your information.

I have one question. How much amount we can withdraw pf amount for medical purpose.

          • Do we need medical certificate from doctor for this.and what is self declaration.is it seperate form or main withdrawl form is sufficient.

            Thanks.

          • Hello sir,

          • Thank you very much sir.

          • Dear Sreekanth

This is your Information that for medical purpose Form C is required for both Online or offline. I have applied from UNA portal and got rejected showed remarks is " enclose necessary certificate"

          • Dear Prashanta .. I believe that different EPF officers are following different procedures as of now, one of my blog readers has applied for the same, claim was rejected, he again applied online with no documents, claim was accepted.
As per the latest EPFO's notification, no additional certificate is required for partial withdrawal for the purpose of medical treatment.

  • Hi Sree,

i have two EPF accounts (with old org.- worked for 4 years) and another with current org. (working for past 2 yrs).
Due to some medical urgency, i need full withdrawl at the best or if not possible, at least partial withdrawl.
    what would you suggest:

Option 1: Apply composite claim (aadhar) form against old epf account?
    Pros: Immediate cash in hand.
Cons: Bear 10% TDS. Also, wont be able to furnish doctor certificate over a quick period

Option2: First merge old epf account with new one and then apply for PART withdrawl
    Pros: No TDS.
Cons: Not sure off total turnaround time? Any guesses?
Also, believe would be able to only partly withdraw? what about max. allowed %?

    • Dear Saurabh,
I guess, online transfer is pretty quick can happen within a week (max) and you may then apply for partial withdrawal (yes it is partial).
In case, you require it urgently, suggest you to make online partial withdrawal from your current EPF account (TDS is applicable), and then apply for online transfer of funds from old EPF account and then apply for one more partial withdrawal for medical treatment.
Kindly read : EPF partial withdrawal options & rules..

  • I want to partially withdraw from my PF account by using the physical form for medical treatment purposes. I am not able to apply online as it shows multiple PF accounts linked to my UAN.

Please let me know how and where should the form be submitted? Can I send the form by post or courier? I am based out of Delhi office of my organisation. But the PF account falls under PF office in Ambattur in Karnataka.

    Regards

    Harish Pandey

      • Dear Sreekanth,

Thankyou for your prompt reply. Could you please let me know where should I send the form to? The PF office in Delhi area under which my office falls or the PF office in Ambattur, Karnataka?

And I have another query. If I apply for partial withdrawal for renovation in my existing parental house, would the amount be transferred to my account or do I need to provide the details of the contractor who would carry out the alterations?

        Regards

        Harish

  • Hi Sreekanth,

So I have finally sent my partial withdrawal claim form to EPFO. However, I hear from a colleague that employees of Infosys (I work there) wouldn’t be allowed to submit claims directly to EPFO because it has a separate PF Trust or something. Do you have any information on this? Should I approach my employer for this withdrawal or will the offline claim be processed?

    Thanks in advance!
    Anil

    • Dear Anil ..You may kindly check with your employer...
Do provide the status update here..will be useful to other readers..thank you!
