Withdrawal of EPF

sanjaykm asked 8 years ago
Hi, I have a query, I worked for an organization for more than 6 years. I left that organization in July 2015 and became NRI. It has been 2.5 years since I left my last organization.now I would like to withdraw my EPF amount. Do I need to fill 15G/H form? Do I need to inform my last company (as I am going to deposit withdrawal forms to my last organization) that I am NRI ? If so which form I need to fill NRI information. do I need to file IT return on this amount?

Hi, You can submit the withdrawal forms to your ex-employer.  I have noticed that EPFO is requesting Form 15G from all the applicants (even if not eligible). You need to enclose, copy of blank cancelled cheque, PAN card copy along with your claim form. As your service period is more than 5 years, the withdrawal amount is tax-free.  Whether to file ITR or not, it depends on your other income in India.  You can disclose the EPF withdrawal amount in 'exempt income' section of ITR. Hi, There is no field in the Claim form to inform about your Residential status. However, as you are NRI, I believe you would have updated your residential status with your bankers.
