Dear Sreekanth Hi! SBI Small cap fund is open now for investment. Do you advice to start SIP in this fund, as recently this fund is not doing so good I suppose. Between small cap and large cap (SBI Blue chip) which will you suggest considering the present states of Small cap. This is for my father who is a first time MF investor. Regards D Sharma

Dear Mr Sharma, If the investment time-frame is around 3 years, also considering the fact this is going to be your father's first investment in MFs, suggest you to avoid equity funds.

If the investment time-frame is around 3 years, he may consider investing in an ultra short term or short term debt fund. For ex : Franklin Low Duration Fund. One can expect returns better than a bank FD, but do note that returns from Mutual funds are not guaranteed.
