Dear Mr Sreekanth I am a new investor to mutual funds . I drew inspiration by reading your articles.  I am 47 years old .  I'm an house wife .  I have fixed deposits in banks to the tune of Rs. 5 lacs. I now want to invest in SIP MF Schemes.  This month I had started my first SIP in Birla sunlife front line equity fund growth direct for 1000/-pm for 12 months.  I can spare another  2000/_ pm for a period of 3 years.  The objective of this investment is to get good returns.  Please suggest me MF schemes Regards Shanthi

Dear Shanthi ji, Thank for your following my blog posts! Is your time-frame for equity mutual fund investment 3 years?
nagarajan.smiles@gmail.com replied 9 years ago

To start with I thought of investing for 3 years. Since I am very new to this, it would be better if you suggest me the MF scheme, amount of SIP and the time frame. My only concern is reasonable returns. Regards
Shanthi

Hi, If so, you may consider an equity oriented balanced fund. Ex : HDFC Balanced fund. Kindly read : https://www.relakhs.com/best-balanced-mutual-fund-schemes-review/ https://www.relakhs.com/best-mutual-fund-scheme-risk-ratios/

Hi, Is 12 months and 36 months your SIP time-frame and investment holding period (expected)?? Do you need this money after 3 years?
Sreekanth Staff answered 9 years ago
Hi, You may continue with your existing large cap fund - Birla Frontline equity, and can pick ; Franklin Prima plus fund / Kotak Select Focus (mulitcap), HDFC Balanced fund, If you are ok to take higher risk, you may add one mid-cap fund : ex : HDFC mid-cap / Mirae Emerging bluechip fund etc., Suggested readings : https://www.relakhs.com/best-mutual-fund-schemes-2017/ https://www.relakhs.com/mutual-fund-portfolio-overlap-comparison-tools/

Dear Shanthi, All the above listed funds are good ones.  You have 3 multi-cap funds (L&T value, Franklin primaplus & Kotak select focus). You may check their portfolio overlap and if the overlap % is in within reasonable limits, you may continue with your investments/portfolio. Do remain invested for long-term. Kindly read : https://www.relakhs.com/mutual-fund-portfolio-overlap-comparison-tools/

Dear Sir

Today my bank suggested me of a New Fund Offer from Reliance Mutual Fund RELIANCE CAPITAL BUILDER FUND IV SERIES B. Its a close ended equity Fund in Multi cap.

As per your suggestion I have made SIP investments to the tune of Rs. 10000 per month. I have no idea about the above Reliance fund. I am a moderate risk taker. There is no specific goal for this but for getting decent returns. Can you please suggest me if I can do any investment in this. Minimum amount as per scheme is Rs. 5000. Please advise.

Dear Shanthi, There is no thumb rule as such ... If I see a overlap of say 60% between two funds, no point in having both the funds in a portfolio. The above %s are ok. Do note that these portfolios may change over a period of time. You may continue with these three or may pick any 2 out of these 3 funds.

Dear Shanthi ji, The best thing you can do now is 'get him a PAN', anyways its going to be mandatory.
Sreekanth Staff answered 9 years ago
Dear Shanthi, You may ignore investing in this NFO and may allocate the investible surplus in your existing funds itself.
Sreekanth Staff answered 8 years ago
Dear Shanthi, Hi... You may consider suggesting him to invest in a balanced fund + MIP fund.  Ex : HDFC Balanced fund + Birla MIP II wealth 25 fund. Kindly note that unlike in FDs, the returns here are not guaranteed.
