Hi, It is a Debt oriented Short term fund.  The investment objective of this fund is 'to earn regular income for investors through investments primarily in highly rated debt securities.' Thanks, I am assuming the risk will be below average as they are investing in highly rated debt securities. Secondly whats the Tax implication on the returns (if redeemed after 3+ yrs - i am yet to go through your post long term capital gains tax for MFs posted recently.  I will, saved it. One other thing, in the past too you have not said much on the Tata Retirement Savings Fund...is it because it can be redeeded only after 60 yrs.  Any other negative this fund has ?  For diversification, i was looking at this, i am ok to locking my fund in this for 5 yrs.  Current age 55 yrs after 5 yrs we could redeem it.  Tax implication of this fund too.

Hi, Tax on LTCG of Debt funds is @ 20% (with indexation). TATA Retirement fund : Besides, the lock-in period, there is an exit load of 3% if redeemed before the age of 60 years. I think the fund has three types of plans to choose from.. The taxation of Equity oriented versions (TATA Retirement Sav Moderate & Progressive) of this fund are like of Equity funds. Tata Retirement savings fund  - conservative is like Debt oriented fund. (Switching across the plans is accepted.) Also, this fund follows 'life cycle based approach to retirement savings', adjusting the equity – debt proportion with increasing age. So if the investor starts an SIP in the “Progressive” plan opting for the Auto Switch Feature, automatically the fund will do the needful as the consumer crosses different age brackets as explained below ;
  • Progressive to Moderate – switch happens once the invest tor attains the Age of 45yrs.
  • Moderate to Conservative – switch happens once the investor attains the Age of 60yrs. However the fund also provides the option of staying perpetually invested in a single plan of choice.
I believe , we should have control on the investments rather than having a fixed investment strategy / allocation based on AGE factor alone...
