Dear Shreekant,
I'm thinking of buying Critical Illness Cover of Rs. 25 lakh for myself and my spouse.
Some policies cover 12 illnesses, some 20 and Apollo Munich - 37 critical Illnesses.
Even though I went through list of illnesses they cover, a layman cannot understand whether he is adequately covered with a policy that cover 12 illnesses or 20 or 37.
It would be great if you can share your views about different policies like of Apollo Munich, Max Bupa and Aviva etc.

Hi,
I strongly believe one can never have a comprehensive CI cover, as the medical requirements can be very unpredictable.
In case if your family has a history of any major Critical illnesses, suggest you to give high priority to a CI plan which covers those.
Do you have basic health insurance plan (mediclaim)? Have you/spouse been adequately covered?
Hi Sreekant,
In my family we do not have any history of major Critical Illness.
We do have basic health insurance plan as well as accident insurance. Pending with Critical Illness cover. Would it be possible for you to suggest plans which would cover majority of the illnesses like cancer, heart related issues, lung failure etc.

Hi,
If you do not have mediclaim policy and if your family's medical history is good, suggest you to first consider buying a stand-alone or Family floater policy.
You can also buy a Super top up policy to enhance the sum assured.
Suggest you to use comparative portals to pick health insurance policies (this would be the best way).
I am planning to publish an article on CI plans very soon.

Hi Sreekanth,
I do have Mediclaim policy and also accident insurance policy. Now want to focus on getting a Critical Illness policy which will cover majority of the illnesses. As informed in my previous mail, do not have any family history of critical Illness.
Would request you to please suggest a good comprehensive Critical Illness policy.
