Dear Sreekanth,
Hi!
I am a regular follower of your blogs. Thanks for all the previous financial suggestions.
My father wishes to invest in MF. He is retired and will be a first time MF investor. He would like to invest some 10 lakhs ruppes in MF for a horizon of 5 years +.
Should he go for lump sum or SIP mode. He does not want to take much risk.
Please suggest few MF for the investment.
Regards
D Sharma

Dear Mr Sharma,
May I know the investment objective(s) for this investment?
Is your father highly dependent on the income/appreciation generated on this investment? Is he expecting regular income/withdrawal from this?
Dear Sreekanth
My father has always used the traditional investment strategies- RD, FD, MIS etc.
For the first time he has decided to invest in mutual funds with an objective of earning from his saving.
No he is not dependent on the income/appreciation generated on this investment.
Though he is not expecting regular income/withdrawal from this.

Dear Mr Sharma,
If your father is not dependent on this corpus and considering time-frame as around 5 years, why he does not like to take 'much risk'??
So, I am assuming that he would like to invest in funds which fall under Debt or Hybrid-debt category??
If so, you can suggest him categories like Short term Debt funds, MIPs, FMPs etc for a horizon of 3 to 5 years.
Ex :
SBI MIP Floater, HDFC Regular Savings Fund etc.,
He can invest lump sum amount if he chooses to invest in Debt oriented funds..
