An EPF (Employees Provident Fund) member can withdraw his/her PF balance partially for different kinds of purposes like ; for purchase of House / Flat, Site, Construction of house, to meet marriage expenses etc.,
An EPF subscriber can also take EPF advance for the purpose of medical treatment of self / family members. As of now, to make a partial withdrawal for medical treatment, a member has to submit a doctor’s certificate (medical certificate) along with the partial withdrawal form.
To add further convenience to EPF subscribers, an EPF member will no longer be required to submit any Medical certificate or any other certificate or document or proforma whatsoever to avail PF advances for medical treatment purposes.
This new guideline has been included and amended under paragraph 68-J or under paragraph 68-N of EPF Scheme 1952.
The EPFO has recently introduced single page Composite Claim Form for full / partial withdrawals. You can use these new forms to take PF advance for medical treatment.
A couple of weeks back, the EPFO has also allowed its members to withdraw up to 90% of EPF balance for purchase of House / flat / site / construction of house.
It is nice to see these new initiatives being taken up by the EPFO but they also need to make sure that their online portals are up and live 24/7 (EPFO UAN based portals have been down due to some technical issues for the last many weeks). Also, let’s hope that EPFO will launch their online PF withdrawal facility soon 🙂
A word of advice ; Your EPF contributions / savings are meant for your retirement (long-term). So, think twice before you withdraw your PF money. Try out all the options and sources to fund your expenses or needs. EPF Partial Withdrawals should be your last resort.

Hello Sir, I have joined a new organization which has linked my pf with old UAN as per Aadhar, so my old organization is not allowing me to withdraw my 7 years PF amount, if I transfer my pf, will the new organization allow me to partially withdraw my pf for purchase a house, if yes then how much it would be...
please advise
Dear Parvendra,
If you are currently employed and contributing to EPF scheme then you can not make full PF withdrawal claim. Once you transfer the funds from your previous EPF account to new one, you can submit partial withdrawal claim.
Purchase of House/Flat through a Society / Housing Agency : If withdrawal application is through a Society then minimum years is 3 years. ( through a registered society or houses/flats being constructed through forming a society.) – Section 68 BD. In this case, 90% of EPF balance is payable as an Advance.
Purchase of House/Flat directly from a Builder : In this case, the Membership service criteria to withdraw is still considered as 5 years only. – they are referring to Section 68B.
For purchase of site directly from builder :
24 month’s basic wages and DA.
For purchase of house/flat/construction:
36 month’s basic wages and DA
OR
Total of employee and employer share with interest
OR
Total cost.
Whichever is least will be allowed as withdrawal.
Kindly read : EPF partial withdrawal options & rules..
Dear Sreekanth ,
Any documents need to submit for taking advance for medical ground?? anyhow i am expressing sincere thanks for such informations for public.
Dear Biswajit,
As long as there is sufficient balance, an EPF member can withdraw PF partially for the purpose of medical treatment. No, documents are required to be submitted.
But, a few blog readers have informed me that EPFO has again started requesting for Doctor certificate etc, though there is no official notification on this.
How many times i can withdraw advance for illness and treatment???
Hi Sreekanth,
I have Employee share: 2800 and Employer share 478000 - I have requested for PF withdrawal (Illness) of amount 3lacs but i see the status after 2 days as 69300 has been approved may i know so less? As per your comment it should be either 6 month basic salary or interest earned in employee share. My Basic pay is 50,000 per month so in that case 3lacs should been approved .. please advise.
Hi,
For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”
What is the balance under Employee share?
Is Rs 50k total salary or just basic?
Hi Sreekanth,
I have Employee share: 2,800 and Employer share 4,78000. My basic salary is 50,000. But i got approved amount of 69,300, Why ? As per the process 6 months basic wage or interest of employee share i should have got 3lacs, is int?
Hi,
Kindly note that that it is LEAST of the two conditions.
Probably they would have paid employee share Rs 2800 + accumulated interest to you.
