EPF Partial withdrawal (PF Advance) for Medical Treatment

An EPF (Employees Provident Fund) member can withdraw his/her PF balance partially for different kinds of purposes like ; for purchase of House / Flat, Site, Construction of house, to meet marriage expenses etc.,

An EPF subscriber can also take EPF advance for the purpose of medical treatment of self / family members. As of now, to make a partial withdrawal for medical treatment, a member has to submit a doctor’s certificate (medical certificate) along with the partial withdrawal form.

To add further convenience to EPF subscribers, an EPF member will no longer be required to submit any Medical certificate or any other certificate or document or proforma whatsoever to avail PF advances for medical treatment purposes.

This new guideline has been included and amended under paragraph 68-J or under paragraph 68-N of EPF Scheme 1952.

EPF members will now only be required to submit a self-declaration for the advance in case of illness of members/ dependents. Differently abled members will also get advance on the basis of self-declaration. No minimum years of service is required.
Kindly note that ‘self-declaration’ has already been included in the EPF New Composite Claim form.

New Composite Claim Form for EPF Partial Withdrawal

The EPFO has recently introduced single page Composite Claim Form for full / partial withdrawals. You can use these new forms to take PF advance for medical treatment.

  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar) : If your UAN has been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of withdrawals. The attestation of employer is not required and this form can be submitted to EPFO directly. Click on the below image to download New EPF Composite Claim Form (Aadhar).
  • EPF Composite Claim Form (Non-Aadhar) : If your UAN has not yet been seeded with Aadhar and bank details, this form can be submitted for all types of PF withdrawals. The attestation of employer is required and the form has to routed through an employer. Click on the below image to download New EPF Composite Claim Form (Non-Aadhar).

A couple of weeks back, the EPFO has also allowed its members to withdraw up to 90% of EPF balance for purchase of House / flat / site / construction of house.

It is nice to see these new initiatives being taken up by the EPFO but they also need to make sure that their online portals are up and live 24/7 (EPFO UAN based portals have been down due to some technical issues for the last many weeks). Also, let’s hope that EPFO will launch their online PF withdrawal facility soon 🙂

A word of advice ; Your EPF contributions / savings are meant for your retirement (long-term). So, think twice before you withdraw your PF money. Try out all the options and sources to fund your expenses or needs. EPF Partial Withdrawals should be your last resort.

  • I have applied for PF Advance Withdrawal (Date: 13-Apr-2018, Reason: Illness), Still my status are under process

How much days it take to completed the process ?

    Please Help…!!!

  • I withdraw my employee share for illness I got . Again I apply for advance for illness does I get the amount of employer share , without their sign

    • Dear Prathap,
Employer share is not payable for the said purpose.

“For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”

      • Also a quick question, if i have applied for 50k advance withdrawl for illness.... would there be any sort of deductions in my salary?

        • Dear chaitanya,
Is your employee share less than your 3 months basic pay?
If it is then you can withdraw up to that extent only.
There won't be any deductions as such.

          • Dear Sreekanth,

Thanks for the reply. much appreciated

My 3 months basic pay in total is 65,000.
Employee share is 6,290 per month.

So pls tell me the amount that I am eligible to receive?

i didnt understand what extent you are referring to for withdrawl!1

          • Dear chaitanya,
It is the least of the two..So, in your case it is 6,290 * 3.

          • Hi Sreekanth,

Below is the current status :( from EPFO claim status portal.

            TOTAL AMOUNT APPROVED : 6200

          • Dear chaitanya,
So, 6300/6290 is your accumulated employee share and its not monthly. So, EPFO is correct.

      • Hi Sreekanth,

Its been only 3 months since I have joined my company. Say for eg. if basic is 21000, so you mean to say that 1,26, 000 (21000*6) would be maximum amount that we can request ?
or else its only 3 times my basic as its only 3 months i have joined my new company? please explain

  • Hi My employee share and employer share is around Rs 60000/-
    pension contribution is Rs 30000/-
Can I make PF advance or partial withdrawal 49000/- for stating medical illness or treatment

    • Dear Sunil,
“For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”

  • have completed my 3years 6 months in a company
Can I withdraw partial amount in my pf account for stating medical illness
Do I need to submit the medical certificate or declaration form.
Do I need to repay back this amount to of balance

  • Hi sir
I will already raised claim for illness by I want again claim for home renovation so I will do it process?

    • Dear hemant ..In case, you have submitted the claim form online then I believe that you may not be able to correct/edit the details..

  • Hi Sreekanth,

I khow that the basic criteria for partial withdrawal is -

"The least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”

Now I am working in a company for 7 yrs and when I see PF passbook it is not showing interest part. Then for partial withdrawal if I need to consider interest part as well (to quote my required amount) then where to look for the interest part to put the correct amount.

In worst case if I put some amount and if this amount is exceeding allowed amount then can you please let me know if my claim will be rejected OR it will be settled with correction (max allowed amount)

    regards
    SUBRATA

    • Dear Subrata,
I have seen claims being accepted and settled even if a member provides an amount which is more than the eligible amount. EPFO will accept the claim, settles as per the said limits.

Suggest you to submit your grievance about the query on 'interest accumulation' to the EPFO..click here..

      • Hi,
Tried to raise the grievance many times but always find the error like all mandatory fields must be populated. But I do not find any mandatory fields kept blank?? do not know whether portal is working fine or not.
        any idea what went wrong???

        regards
        subrata

        • Dear Subrata..Suggest you to kindly go through this link, to check if you are providing all the required details correctly or not..

  • Dear Sreekanth,

I had done partial withdrawal from my pf account for medical treatment in Dec 2017. Now my balance in 20000. I have another requirement for a dental surgery and wanted to withdraw the remaining balance of employee share. However my partial withdrawal request was rejected stating already settled and in sufficient fund at EE. Can you please advise why it was rejected as I believe we can apply multiple times to withdraw amount of our employee share for medical treatment

    • Dear Nishant,
Yes, you can apply multiple times for the purpose of medical treatment.

“For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”

  • dear sir,
after my PF Online claim submission through EPFO For illness, once it get settled means,at the withdrawal any certificate needed from medical practitioner or by a EPFO Officer ?

    • Dear vekadesh ..As per the latest norms, there is no need to submit any documentary proofs..

  • Hi Srikanth,

I have applied for Rs.49000, as partial withdrawal for medical illness. My total service is 4years 6months.
Will this withdrawal have any tax implications?

    • Dear Mahendar,
Partial withdrawals are not subject to taxes.
“For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”
