An EPF (Employees Provident Fund) member can withdraw his/her PF balance partially for different kinds of purposes like ; for purchase of House / Flat, Site, Construction of house, to meet marriage expenses etc.,
An EPF subscriber can also take EPF advance for the purpose of medical treatment of self / family members. As of now, to make a partial withdrawal for medical treatment, a member has to submit a doctor’s certificate (medical certificate) along with the partial withdrawal form.
To add further convenience to EPF subscribers, an EPF member will no longer be required to submit any Medical certificate or any other certificate or document or proforma whatsoever to avail PF advances for medical treatment purposes.
This new guideline has been included and amended under paragraph 68-J or under paragraph 68-N of EPF Scheme 1952.
The EPFO has recently introduced single page Composite Claim Form for full / partial withdrawals. You can use these new forms to take PF advance for medical treatment.
A couple of weeks back, the EPFO has also allowed its members to withdraw up to 90% of EPF balance for purchase of House / flat / site / construction of house.
It is nice to see these new initiatives being taken up by the EPFO but they also need to make sure that their online portals are up and live 24/7 (EPFO UAN based portals have been down due to some technical issues for the last many weeks). Also, let’s hope that EPFO will launch their online PF withdrawal facility soon 🙂
A word of advice ; Your EPF contributions / savings are meant for your retirement (long-term). So, think twice before you withdraw your PF money. Try out all the options and sources to fund your expenses or needs. EPF Partial Withdrawals should be your last resort.

Dear Saravanan,
You can apply multiple times for partial withdrawal for medical treatments and no time-gap is needed.
However, they might have rejected the application as there wont be any min amount that can be paid to you.
“For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”

Hi Sreekanth,
I have a EPF account from 2011 Sept - till date, the problem is my company is acquired by another company on 2014 and the the PF account has been changed from Madurai to Bangalore and still maintained there, While I am trying for partial Withdrawal for at least 90% through online the Date of Joining is 2014 not 2011 so it comes as a not eligible criteria to withdraw the amount under "House Construction". Is there any way of solving it or I need to work through any other process by sending the form manually?
Dear Arun,
Did you transfer the funds from previous EPF ac to your current EPF ac?
If you are buying directly from a builder then 90% of EPF is not allowed. This is allowed only in case if one applies through a housing or cooperative society.
Purchase of House/Flat through a Society / Housing Agency : If withdrawal application is through a Society then minimum years is 3 years. ( through a registered society or houses/flats being constructed through forming a society.) – Section 68 BD. In this case, 90% of EPF balance is payable as an Advance.
Purchase of House/Flat directly from a Builder : In this case, the Membership service criteria to withdraw is still considered as 5 years only. – they are referring to Section 68B.
For purchase of site directly from builder :
24 month’s basic wages and DA.
For purchase of house/flat/construction:
36 month’s basic wages and DA
OR
Total of employee and employer share with interest
OR
Total cost.
Whichever is least will be allowed as withdrawal.
sir how much amount we can take pf advance for illness.
is employer share also can we take for illness.

“For the purpose of ‘medical treatment’, the least of 6 months basic wages (or) employee share with interest is allowed as partial withdrawal.”

Dear Nijam,
For example : If basic salary is say Rs 1000 pm and accumulated employee contribution with interest is say around Rs 10,000 then
Least of i) Rs 6*1000 or
ii) Rs 10,000
which is Rs 6,000 is allowed as partial withdrawal.

Hi,
I worked in my first company for 4 years and when i left from there, i withdrew the PF amount.
Then I joined in another organization and worked there for 2 years 8 months.
Now I am working in another company for 8 months. I have transferred the PF amount of 2nd organization to current one.
Totally I have 7+ years of experience. I approached PF office for PF Advance with category 'Construction of House' which needs only 5+ years of membership with EPF. But They told that I have less than 5 years of service and I cannot apply for PF advance with that category.
My Question is, If we withdraw the PF amount, service will not be accumulated.? (4 years of service with my first company has not been added.)
Dear Karthi,
Yes, as you have withdrawn the funds from 1st EPF ac, that service period of 4 years wont get carried forward.
The service period of EPF-2 & EPF-3 only is considered.
Kindly read : EPF partial withdrawal rules & options
