Online filing of Income Tax Return is paperless, only if the person has a digital signature. Taxpayers who did not have a digital signature had to post a physical copy of the ITR V form to the Central Processing Centre (CPC) in Bengaluru, within 120 days of filing tax returns online.
Good news.. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has issued a notification on 13th July,2015 regarding the usage of Electronic Verification code for verifying the Income Tax Returns (ITRs) that are filed electronically. If you e-verify your Income Tax Return using EVC, no need to mail (post) ITR V physical copy to CPC Bangalore.
In this post let us understand – What is Electronic Verification code? How to generate EVC? What are the different modes of generation of EVC? How to link Aadhar number to your PAN in e-filing website? How to do an electronic verification of Income Tax Return (e-verify)?
What is Electronic Verification Code?
- The Electronic Verification code would verify the identity of the person (Verifier) furnishing the return of income and this can be be generated on the E-filing website of Income Tax Department.
- The EVC can be used by a Verifier to verify his ITR 1 / ITR 2 / ITR 2A / ITR 3 / ITR 4 /ITR 4S. Karta of an HUF (Hindu Undivided Family) also can use the EVC to verify the returns.
- The EVC would be unique for an Assessee PAN and will not be valid for any other PAN at the time of filing the ITR.
- Only one EVC can be used to validate one ITR of the assessee irrespective of the Assessment Year or Return filing type (ie original or revised returns).
- The EVC will be stored against the Assesse’s PAN along with the other verification details. The EVC is valid for 72 hours.
- The Verifier can use more than one mode to obtain EVC and can generate the EVC multiple times.
Latest News (29-July-2016) : The last date for filing Income Tax Returns for Assessment Year (AY) 2016-17 has been extended to August 5, 2016.
Modes of generation of EVC
Electronic Verification code through Net-Banking
- The EVC can be generated after the verifier (Assessee) logs in to the e-filing website through Net banking. The specified banks registered with the IT Department provide direct access to the e-filing website through Internet Banking facility. These banks provide this facility to all the account holders whose bank accounts have a validated PAN (as per KYC norms). The account holder can access his / her bank’s internet banking website through his / her internet banking ID / password and can seek redirection to e-filing website, where he/she can generate the EVC. The EVC will be displayed and also sent to the registered mobile number. This EVC can be used to verify the Income Tax Return.
- If you click on ‘income tax e-filing’ after log in to your net-banking account then you can find options as below. You can select step 2 ‘Click on generate EVC link’ to generate new EVC. (I have got the below options after logging into my ICICI Bank net-banking account and after opting for ‘Income tax e-filing’ option under ‘Manage your taxes’ menu.)
- The banks which provide this facility as of now are – Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Axis Bank Ltd, Bank or Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra,Canara Bank, Central Bank of India,City Union Bank Ltd, Corporation Bank-Corporate Banking, Corporation Bank-Retail Banking, Dena Bank,HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Rank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Syndicate Bank,UCO Bank Union Bank of India, United Bank of India, Vijaya Bank .
Electronic Verification code using Aadhar One Time Password (Aadhar OTP)
- You can link your Aadhar with your PAN on the e-filing website. Once the linking is successfully done, the Electronic Verification code can be generated and will be sent to your mobile number registered with UIDAI Aadhar. This Aadhar OTP is the EVC and can be used to verify your ITR. OTP is valid for 10 minutes only.
EVC using Bank ATM (Automatic Teller Machine)
- You can use this mode if your ATM card is linked to PAN verified bank account and your bank is registered with the IT department. You can access your Bank’s ATM using ATM PIN and can select ‘generate EVC for ITR filing’ option on the ATM screen. The EVC will be sent to your registered mobile number.
Latest News (04-June-2016) : State Bank of India (SBI) is the first bank to launch ‘ EVC through ATM ‘ facility which will facilitate its customers, who may not have a net-banking account, to e-verify their income tax return. Other banks are expected to launch this facility soon.
Latest News (30-July-2016) : Electronic Verification Code (EVC) can now be generated through AXIS bank and Canara bank ATMs too.
EVC through e-filing website
- Where the total income as per ITR is Rs 5 Lakh or below and there is no Refund claim, you (assessee) can generate an EVC one the E-filing website. The code will be sent to the Registered email ID / Mobile number of assessee.
Once you have received your Electronic Verification code, you can login to e-filing website to e-verify your Income Tax Return which you have already uploaded or submitted online.
Latest News (23-Jan-2016) : In addition to the above modes, the Income Tax Department has now included two more modes through which you can e-Verify your ITR. You can now e-verify through Bank Account (or) Demat account modes also.
- You have to provide Demat account number, email id and mobile number. These details, along with Permanent Account Number (PAN), would be validated against the information with depository (CDSL/NSDL). The Generated EVC will be sent by e-filing portal to your email id and or mobile number which is verified from CDSL or NSDL. You can use this EVC to verify your ITR electronically.
- The e-Filing website of the Income Tax department would now provide a facility to pre-validate your bank account details. You (tax assessee) will have to provide bank account number, IFSC code, email id, and mobile number and these details will be validated against the details of the tax payer registered with your bank. The Generated EVC will be sent by e-filing portal to your email id and/or mobile number verified from bank.
How to e-verify Income Tax Return?
- Log in to e-filing website using your login credentials.
- Click on e-file menu option and then click on ‘e-verify return’ option.
- The pending ITRs for e-verification will be displayed as below. Click on ‘e-verify’.
- You can find three options as below to complete the e-verification process.
- If you already have the Electronic Verification code, you can enter it by selecting ‘option 1’. Otherwise, you can proceed with either option 2 or option 3.
- If you select option 2, below sub-options will be displayed.
- If you select option 3 then you need to link your Aadhar number to PAN and get OTP.
- Once you submit EVC (generated through any of the above options), the entire process of verification of your ITR is complete. There is no need to send (mail) ITR V physical copy .
- You may check the status of your ITR. It should be displayed as ‘successfully e-verified’.
- Once you successfully verify your Income Tax returns, you can download the ‘Acknowledgment Form’. This form looks similar to ITR V.
- Kindly note that do not send this form to CPC Bangalore.

Can you tell, how much time i have to wait to get the refund as my friend on filed on same day get the return already.
I had filed return for AY 2015-16 in December, 2015. The return was belated. However, I did not verify my return. So, the return must have become null and void. So, I would need to file it again now. So, should I file it as ‘Belated’ or ‘Revised’?
Dear Parth ..It is a belated return.
Hi Sreekanth,
My returns for year 2015-16 are still in EVC accepted state from 01-May-2016 to till date and there are no pending actions from my side and there is no communication as well from IT Dept.
How Long should I wait, for my Returns to be refunded. is there any way for this issue resolution.?
Dear Harinath ..You can submit your grievance through new online facility called e-Nivaran .
Can you please let me know on which mail id , I can reach you. I have some Queries ..
Hello Sreekanth,
Normally if we submit ITRV manually it use to take 45 days to max 3 months or 2 months mostly for getting the refund and resembling the same in the website.then it should be still more faster to get the refunds right if we do it by EVC.
I have EVC verified on 28 July and EVC accepted on 30 July but till now no status update after that. Why is it taking too long when the verification is already completed.
Dear Ram..Kindly check if there any ‘pending action‘ items under ‘Dashboard’ menu option. If nothing, you may have to wait for some more days.
I have filed ITR returns on 10th JULY 2019 nd e-verified thourgh aadhar otp till now EVC accepted like that not came almost 60 days happened what will be the reason
Dear Usha,
In my case, I had filed ITR on 20/08/19, e-verified my ITR through Aadhaar OTP on 20th itself.
The e-verification has been accepted on 21/08/2019.
In case, your evc status is same, you may submit your grievance to the IT dept through e-Nivaran portal.
I HAVE FILLED ITR ON 21 JULY AND EVC ACCEPTED ON 29 JULY, SINCE THEN NO STATUS HAS CHANGED,SHOWING SUCCESSFULLY E VERIFIED,WHAT SHOULD I DO
Dear NIRBHAY ..Kindly wait for some more days and do check for any ‘pending actions’ under dashboard option after login to e-filing portal.

So do I need to wait more for my refund to be processed??
Dear Kamal..Kindly wait for some more days.
Dear Sreekanth.. thanks for your prompt reply.
Sreekanth,
I submitted my ITR on 8th Aug this year (late by 3 days) also was not aware of e-verify. Completed that step on 30th Aug. Does this mean my refund will be delayed by another 1 month. Also will I be charged any penalty for late IT returns
Hey.. i believe we have 120 days time to do e-verify from the day you submitted ITR.
Dear Ankit..The ITR dept can levy a penalty of Rs 5,000 at their sole discretion for belated return (in case if you receive notice). 1% interest penalty can be levied (per month rate).
i have upload the file and also i have sent letter to banglore, i have received msg from itr department regarding itr v has been received sucessfully, i have forgot to Evc process at the time of uploading dated 11.07.2016………please help
Dear Hemant ..If your ITR V has been received by the IT dept then there is no need to e-verify your ITR (EVC).
My status showing EVC accepted on 07 August, 2016 & today i had recd message from VM-ITDEPT ” Declare undisclosed income/assets under income declaration scheme 2016 or call 1800-180-1961/visit http://www.incometaxindia.gov.in or Room no 338 Aaykar Bhavan Mumbai.
What is it meaning ? or any mistake at the time of filing return, Pls certify ?
My status showing EVC accepted on 04 August, 2016. How much time it will take to get the information about refund. Today is 24th and no status update even if I am calling CPC. They say it is under process
Dear nilam ..Kindly check if there are any ‘pending action items’ under ‘Dash board’ menu option. If you do not have any pending items, you may kindly wait for some more time for the ITR to get processed/assessed.
Hi, I have submitted my revised ITR for A.Y 2015 on 30th July 2016 and it shows ‘Successfully E-Verified’ from then on. When it will change to EVC accepted? Will it take time for processing last year revised ITR’s?
Also, this year A.Y 2016 ITR shows EVC accepted, that means they accepted my ITR and ready to return or still they yet to review my ITR?
Dear Sasikumar ..After reviewing the Assessment, the status can be ‘ITR processed’.
Hi Sasikumar,
Mine is also the same case for revised ITR for AY 2015-16. Status is still Successully e-verified. Did you get any response from IT or the status changed?
Regards,
Kalyan
Hi,
I’ve submitted e-return in the month of july itself. but i face some problem in generating EVC. I tried linking aadhar number but it throws a popup to update details. I forgotten my netbanking password even i contacted bank for my new password but its taking too time. i’ve to e-verify by this week. So i switched to generate EVC through bank account but only punjab national bank and United bank of india banks alone available in dropdown no other banks are listed out. Then how would i resolve this problem. Please help me.
Dear Muralidharan ..If you do not have any other option as of now, suggest you to send the hard copy of ITR -V to CPC blr.
Hi Sreekanth,
My efilling status was done on 30th july and now iam seeing EVC accepted from 02-AUG no change in the status.
Do i need to do anything to get my returns?
Thanks,
kalyan
Dear Kalyan ..Kindly wait for some more days. Your ITR will be processed.
Thanks Sreekanth.
Sir… I successfully e verified my returns…. Its happened on 18/07/2016 …. But still not showing as evc accepted…. What I have to do…. ???? Again I have to upload or wait for sometime????
Dear maheswar ..If the status has not been updated, you may sent ITR-V physical copy to CPC Bangalore address.
Hello Sreekanth
I have submitted my ITR online but e verified the return after the last date suppose the last day would be 05-08-2016 but I have e verify it thru netbanking after 5 days (on 10-08-2016) will it be accepted
Dear Nadeem ..Its fine. Kindly check the status of your ITR. Is it ‘successfully e-verified’?
Managed to successfully e-verify the return and the status says “Successfully e-verified” and got an acknowledgement as well through email. But, its been more than 15 days now, but, still, I’m not getting the next level update which is “EVC Accepted” in the pop-up box when I click on the Acknowledgement number. Some of my friends have got “EVC Accepted” within a day. What should I do? Is it mandatory to get “EVC Accepted”? Do I need to send the manually signed form to CPC, in case, I do not get “EVC Accepted”?
Dear Sundar..Generally EVC gets accepted in 1 or 2 days. You may kindly wait for few more days and if still same status is reflected, kindly contact the help line nos.
Thanks for your quick response. Actually, I have tried contacting Help Line, they are blindly saying, if it is successfully e-verified, then, you do not have to do anything. They are not even aware of EVC Accepted status. Will it create any confusion, if I send signed ITR-V to CPC.
Dear Sundar ..You can send ITR-V, though not required but shouldn’t create any issue.
Hi,
Can I use my netbanking ID to e verify my Mothers income Tax return ? When i use my ID it goes straight into my IT account . Any ideas ????
Hello Sreekanth,
Generated my EVC successfully for the AY – 2016-17. I chose the EVC generating option of “e-mail and mobile no.” and got my EVC both in my e-mail and mobile. My total income was a little over Rs. 3,00,000. Status showing “successfully e-Verified.”
My question is, was it okay to choose this option? Or, should I have chosen the options of net banking/bank a/c etc. ?
Regards,
Arup Dutta
Dear ARUP ..If your ITR has been successfully e-verified then its all ok. Kindly wait for the IT dept to process your assessment.
my taxable income is above 5 lakh can i e verify my return
Yes dear Narendra..

Dear BISWADEV,
If EVC is accepted and your ITR has been successfully e-verified, there is no need to send the physical copy of your ITR-V.
You may kindly wait for few days may be 1 to 2 months to get your refund amount (if any).
can we use other than saving account in EVC through Net banking option. it is for refunding the amount?
Agar main aab return fill karna to last kon kon se ay ki fill kar sakta hu? Or ay 2015-16 ki return fill karne ke baad e verify kab tak kar sakte hai last date ke baad kar sakte hai?
Dear sahil,
You can file ITR of two previous assessment years along with the current one.
Ex – 2016-17, 2015-16 & 2014-15.
Sir aaj to 6 ho gyi mene 2015-16 or 2016-17 ki to kar di abb 2014-15 nhi ho sakegi kuki last date nikal gyi . one more thing mai e verify kab tak kar sakta hu kuki mera mobile aadhar se update 15 din me hoga?
I had completed e-Verification successfully after filing my returns online 3 weeks back. Yesterday I got notice for “Intimation U/S 143(1)” with no demand or differences. Does that mean my Tax processing is complete for this assessment year? When I checked IT dept site, it still shows status of ITR filing as ‘Successfully e-Verified” and not “ITR processed” (like it is being shown for last years). Please educate me on this. Thank you.
Dear Vishal ..Your assessment is done. Kindly wait for sometime and check the status again.
Hello Sir,
Actually i was e-filing for my mom. In order to generate ITRV mistaken they have opted for EVC. Is there any option to change? Or is there any consequences?
Dear Rons ..If they have received EVC code then they can e-verify the tax return instead of sending ITR V to cpc blr.
Hi Sreekanth,
I Have Successfully e-verified on 18-July 2016,But still there is no information relate EVC acceptance.
Please clarify ,generally how much time it will take to get ITR Processed.
Regards
Anvesh
Dear Anvesh,
If the status is ‘Successfully e-verified’ then do not worry. The IT dept will take some time to process your ITR.
In refund what is limit for evc because some of our refund case evc generated successfully through mobile number & email id.
So what is limit for this any Idea????
I have Successfully e-verified my returns on 18-07-2016, but ITR Status not showing EVC accepted. what i have to do?
Dear Sreepadha..Suggest you to generate the EVC again and try e-verifying your ITR again.
is there any charges for e verify ITRV through net banking
No charges dear manish .
is there no facility for direct efiling (quick efiling) for ITR-2A without need of uploading pre-filled xml file?
Dear SKP..Only ITR 1 and ITR 4S has direct online filing facility.
Sir, if the employer ignores/omits to deduct the eligible HRA from gross salary income in computing taxable income in form 16 part B, how can i claim HRA exemption/deduction in QUICK EFILE ITR-I ? where and how to show in e-return?
Dear SKP,
If you live on rent and have made rent payments you can claim deduction on House Rent Allowance at the time of filing your return.
Firstly you need to calculate the total HRA exempted amount and then deduct it from Gross salary.
Re-calculate your total taxable income after adjusting this exemption. Finally calculate your tax dues.
Dear Sreekanth,
I had e-verify my ITR-1 through Aadharr OTP option & sucessfully e-verified. but what about EVC acceptance & ITR proceesed status. Mine is not highlighting these two.
whether my ITR is processed or not. because no status of ITR processed till now.
i had filled my return on 23/07/2016, till no reply of ITR procesed on my dashboard. only e-verified succesfully.
plz do suggest.
Dear JITESH ..Kindly for few more days.
It’s the same case with my ITR too 🙂
Dear Sreekanth Reddy,
Thank you for the helpful advice. I further want to know after successful everify how much time it takes for the refund to come into bank account.
thanks
Dear Himanshu ..It depends..can be 1 to 2 months.
Is ‘total income’ equal to the taxable income (inc after deduction)? My intention is to check if I can go with the first otp mode for everification..
Dear Sangita..Are you referring to ‘EVC through e-filing website’ ? Then it is total income before tax deductions as per your ITR.
Hi, My primary bank account (Yes Bank) doesn’t provide the facility to e verify, and it’ll take me time to get aadhar card phone number updated. So will it be okay to e verify the return that I’ve already filed after 31st July? Upto how much later can you e verify and what are possible consequences?
Thanks in advance 🙂
Dear Animesh..Not sure about the time-limit for e-verification but for ITR-V the time-limit is 120 days after the return is filed. Suggest you to post the ITR-V physical copy this time around and apply for Aadhar card if possible.
Can I everify my returns using netbanking option of Hdfc bank which is not my salary account as I don’t have net banking credentials of my salary account I do have a refund around 1000
Dear Lakshmi ..Yes, you can if that bank a/c is linked to your IT account. Else, you may try out other modes.
For assessment year 2016-17, as my income .is more than 5 Lacs , so i opted for option 2 for e verifying my return i.e. through bank account on 25th July. i got message from ITD that my contact details are updated with transaction ID ……. I am trying to generate EVC,but no EVC is generated . contacted ITD , they said it will take time. please let me know how much time it will take
Dear Kapil..Meanwhile, you can try out other options like Aadhar OTP .
Hi…email option visible in option 2 for e-verify..can u advice?
Sory typo..email option NOT visible in 2nd option …n 1st option evc it’s saying invalid..
Dear Kanu..You may try Aadhar OTP option.
Hi,
when i was doing EVC, its not accepting.. bank details showing wrong.. mine is Canara bank , but by default it is showing PNB with my PAN no.. What to do, i tried many times but no use.. How to chnage my Bank detailos..
Dear Raju,
You can change the Bank account number for EVC purpose by going to ‘My Profile’ and update BANK ACCOUNT details.
hi Srikanth, as you said i tried but its showing only one bank name under select bank option
Hi,
Thats because only Punjab national bank has enabled this option. We will have to wait for others .
Hi Sreekanth,
I filled my ITR and this time I mentioned my house loan interest amount in the ITR. I need to receive 21k as return from income tax.
Since this time it is e-verification and I should no send acknowledgement to CPC, banglore. How can I send them my house loan supporting documents for them to verify?
Thanks,
Naveen
Dear Naveen,
There is no need to send any investment/documents to CPC blr.
Read: IT declaration & investment proofs.
hi sreekanth,
i completed this action.today (21st).and successfully got the acknowledge form.
is it means the money will be credited in my account?
or is there any other verifications are pending to get return?
how many days it will take?
Dear krishna ..If IT dept agrees with your ITR and tax calculation, they will credit the REFUND amount to your bank account directly.
It may take 1 to 2 months or sometimes even before that.
it means still IT dept has to agree, or alredy agreed
Dear krishna ..The IT dept has to process your Tax Assessment and if they agree with your calculations, they will soon issue you the REFUND.
Hi,
I was successfully able to e-verify my tax return for year 2014-2015 but when I am trying to e-verify return for year 2015-16 , it says “No returns pending for e-verification”. Although, for year 2015-16, the status currently is “Return Uploaded”.
Kindly help.
Dear Ayush,
Previous ITRs of AY 2009-2014 are allowed to e-verified.
Kindly read: How to everify ITRs of previous Assessment Years.
Hi Sreekanth,
Not able to E-verify for AY 2015-16, as option not visible though it just says Return uploaded.
Kindly help.
Abhijeet Kumar
Nice information. I had a/c with canara bank. I could not find any provision for EVC
Hi Srikanth,
I have uploaded the return and need to get some refund of Rs 6000 and my income is more >5 lakhs. Can I do an e-verify?
Regards,
Nandeesh
Dear Nandeesh,
Yes, you can e-verify your tax return through netbanking or Aadhaar OTP modes.
I have e-filed, successfully e-verified(1st time). Later I have found in my e-file account that it is processed also, simply saying ‘no demand, no refund’. However no processed statement is mailed to me as yet, as I used to receive them in past years. Is the e-verified acknowledgement enough as a proof of successful return?
Dear Suranjan ..Yes, looks like your return has been successfully processed.
My income is below Rs. 5 lakh and my refund is Rs. 6000 appx, so is it possible for me to everify my return or i need to send ITR V to Bangalore.?
Dear MONIKA..You can e-verify the returns through other modes like ATM, net-banking or Aadhar OTP.
Hi ,
I have e verified my ITR -1 and checked the status it shows EVC accepted . Does it mean ITD is going to refund the money which i claimed ?
Do i need to send ITR form to CPC bangalore?
Dear Dipanshu,
There is no need to send ITR V copy to CPC-Blr.
You may check the ITR processing status to know if the refund is issued or not.
Thanks Friend now showing EVC accepted. How many days taken in TDS Return?
I have submitted by ITR4(for TDS RETURN) on 16 june 2016 for year 2016-17 and e-verified on same date. The status is successfully e-verified shown and EVC Accepted shown on next date. But after 12 days error shown in “worklist menu” thatTax Payer having income under the head “Profits and gains of Business or Profession” but not filled Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Account. Then i filled revised ITR4 and now e-verified then show successfully-verified but not show EVC Accepted. have you any idea why not showing EVC accepted when i had submitted revised ITR4?
Dear Gyan,
You may kindly wait for few days, not sure what could be the reason..

Hi Sreekanth,
I filed revised return to correct one mistake and then e verified it. But this time the employer category I entered ‘NA’ instead of OTH. So what to do. Should I file another revised return just to correct this mistake? Please reply.
Hi Sreekanth,
Another question,In case of revised return do we need to e-verify the original return also? or is it ok just to e-verify the revised return? Please reply.
Dear Krishna ..I believe , YES.
Dear Sreekanth,
Thanks a lot for your help. Regarding the other query where I wrongly mentioned Employment category as ‘NA’ instead of others. Is it ok to keep it like that or should I revise my return for this issue. Please reply
Dear Krishna ..I believe that it should be ok. However I have never come across this issue and do not have real-life experience of this scenario.
Hi Srikanth,
I filed ITR recently. The Current Status is Return uploaded, pending for ITR-V/E Verification. After going through the generated from i came to know that instead of filling some amount under 80G Section i filled it under 80GG.What should i do in this scenario? Plz help me.
Dear Achyuth..You can file a revised return.
Thanks Srikanth. One more query If i do a new return for the same Assesment Year will the first return gets ovveride. – OR –
Should i definitely go for a revised return ?
Dear Achyuth ..It gets override. You may take help of a CA.
Hi,
I couldn’t e-Verify the return for AY 2015-16 within 120 days, the status is ‘Return Uploaded’. Should I do anything about this now?
Dear Harith ..Yes, you can e-verify it now.
Read: How to e-verify your past ITRs?
Thanks for the reply. I tried it, but it’s showing ‘No returns pending for e-Verification’.
Dear Harith..If that is the case then You may have to file a revised return, get a new ITR-V and submit the same within 120 days (or) e-verify the return.
Kindly take help of a CA.
Sreekanth Sir, I hope you can help me with this problem.
I e-filed and uploaded my tax returns for FY 2015-16 / AY 2016-17 in May and also electronically verified it (through Netbanking option) at the same time.
On doing so, I got an acknowledegment that clearly said “Do not send this acknowledgement to CPC, Bengaluru”.
About a month after that (in June), the status changed to “EVC Accepted”.
But today, I got an SMS from the tax dept saying that “ITR V of Acknowledgement No xxxx for Assessment Year 2016-17 not received at CPC, please submit within 120 days of filing of the e-return”.
Has this message been sent in error by them? Since I’ve already e-verified, what should I do now? I’m confused.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Dear Ramamuthy,
If the EVC accepted then you may kindly ignore the message.
If your ITR status is ‘successfully e-verified’ then there should not be any issue.
I read in Newspaper that if I e-verify my TDS Return then the payment deposited in my account within 7 to 10 days.
my question is i verify my return on 24th June 2016 then when the the refund due?, when i ask CPC Benguluru , they tell no such time-limit for that. what is the reality?
Dear Deepak..Even I believe that there is no such time-line exists. Kindly wait for some more days.
Hi,
Nice article , i have sent signed ITR-V to CPC and in the mean time also e-verified return , when checking online i am getting following status
1- Return uploaded (11/06/2016)
2-ITRV received (17/06/2016)
3-Successfully e-verified (21/06/2016)
4-Since ITRV has been accepted at CPC hence EVC can not be considered (22/06/2016)
I am expecting some refund once the ITR is processed – do you think the ITR is processing is stuck(due to i tried EVC) or it would be picked from ITRV received status further?
Thanks
Amit
Dear Amit..I don’t think this will create any issue for processing your ITR. It should be fine.
Thanks Sreekanth for speedy response – last couple of years the ITR processing has been very-very fast and within 2-3 days of they receive it they process it. but this time after this message no progress. I will wait for some more time to see if it moves from here , i was just thinking of some process gap for such scenarios.
Hello sreekanth.
How many days will have to wait after Evc accepted?
Can you say maximum days?
I submitted ITR4 as I earn from a proprietorship business. I was not aware of this EVC thingy and I guess my accountant already sent ITR V to Bengaluru CPC. I was browsing through my incometaxefiling account and found the status showing “Return uploaded/pending for ITR-V or E-verification.” I can assume that the ITR-V has not reached Bengaluru yet or not processed yet. If I e-verify now would that create a complication??
Dear Monica ..I believe that if you eVerify your ITR, it should not create any issue.
If I’m getting any return, do I need to do e verify my file
When i try to e-verify using Bank Account , I am not getting the option to change from Punjab Bank to other Banks
Kindly share any info/procedure to change Bank name so as to e-verify
Hi Sreekanth,
I have filed my return through online and now the status is EVC Accepted .What would be the next status?
Regards
Sathish
Dear Sathish & Gopinath..Kindly wait for some more days. The status will be reflected as ‘ITR processed’.

Dear Sir,
I Had filed my ITR 4 with refund for FY 2015-16 on 23/05/2016 and It is not moving from Successfully e-verified.

Dear Arjun..Kindly wait for some more time 🙂
I have sent the e verified by entering through netbanking ( through SBI). In how many days( normally) the status of ITR-V be changed to processed?
Hi sir i filled my ITR in april 16 seeing my 26As form and it get processed also 1 week before. But now i seen my form 26A for AY 2016-17 and found that when i filledd my ITR that time my PAO has not updated my JAN and FEB income. so there is difference in total income and tax both.
So what i should do now.
Dear Mr shekhawat,
You may file a ‘Revised Return’.
Dear Sreekanth,
How do I file a revised return when the status is still “Successfully e-Verified” but not ITR Processed.
Can re-upload the form 1 again?
Dear syamk..Yes you can file Revised return. Select revised return and select the Sec 139(5) instead of 139(1).
The deadline for filing a revised I-T return by an assessee is before the end of the relevant assessment year or before the completion of the assessment (whichever is earlier).
Hi Sir,
I resigned from company last august and came to US for higher studies. I am trying to file IT returns as i should get some tax refund. As i couldn’t submit 80C related proofs at that time i am trying to do now. is it possible to submit 80C related proof documents online? Earlier i used to send it via speed post along with the final ITR acknowledgement. How do i do now? Also how do i do everify ? I use citi bank.
Thanks,
Sandeep
Dear Sandeep,
You can claim tax deductions now while filing your ITR. There is no need to submit any investment proofs along with ITR.
Hi,
I have successfully e verified on 20-May. Still the status did not move to the next stage ‘EVC accepted’.
Any idea how much time it should take to get the refund.
Dear Vinod..refunds have been getting processed pretty quickly these days by the IT dept, may be within 30 days or may be after July.
Hi
Have anyone filed returns for 2016-17 and go processed?
I came to know that this year refund will be credited in 7-10 days. I have e-filed ITR-1 on 5th April and EVC accepted on 6th April. But no update till now.
Are they dong ECS for refunds above 50000 or still it is paper cheque?
Pls clarify.
Dear MANI..May be it is too early to talk about refunds 🙂
Presently all the income tax refund for amount below Rs. 50,000/- are directly credited to the bank account. For refund exceeding Rs. 50,000/- the income tax department issues physical cheques for refund. However the income tax department is in the process of implementing the system of direct credit to the bank account for all the refunds without any limit in immediate future. As of now even I am not sure if this is place or not??
Yes 7-10days
all paperless
through ECS
Hi Sreekanth,
For refunds, I used to get cheques by post to my address. But now I want to make it online, so that the money gets credited directly to my Bank A/c. How to do that !
Thanks,
Ipsita
Dear Ipsita..While filing your ITR, you can provide your bank a/c details to get the refund (if any) directly to your bank account.
Hi Sreekanth,
Thanks for your reply.
My ITR is already filed. Also, I have sent the signed hard copy by post, though its not received yet. Is there any option to update my Bank details at this point?
Thanks,
Ipsita
Dear Ipsita..You may file ‘revised return’ by providing necessary bank details.
From AY-2014-15 onward the Department has made it compulsory to directly credit the Refund to the Bank with IFC Code mentioned in the ITR.
Hi Srikanth
Nice article. I have e-verified my returns. As of now, the status is “Successfully e-verified”. When will it get changed to “ITR Processed”? Is there any timeline for this and will I get any message and email after ITR is processed?
Regards
Krishna S
Dear Krishna,
When did you e-verify? Yes, once your ITR is processed, you will get an intimation email to your Inbox.
Hi
I was failed to send the hard copy of my ITR to CPC before 31st Jan 2016. So, I have done the e-verification on 29 Jan 2016. (as it is Friday and I can’t send it before 31st which is Sunday)
Regards
Krishna S
Dear Krishna,
Sending physical copy of ITR-V is not mandatory. You could have done e-verification long back.
Now that you have done e-verification, no need to send ITR-V, keep checking your ITR status on e-filing website.

Dear Nitish,
Did you file the ITR online (efile)? Did you do e-verification or sent ITR V after filing your returns?
Suggest you to kindly check for more details by contacting IT helpdesk.
I filed it online, and i linked my aadhar card, I didnot specifically e verify it. But when i checked now, there is no option coming to e verify it and on e verify drop down the same message is being shown.

Dear Ayananta,
Kindly do not provide any of your banking related details. Do note that the Income Tax department do not send these kind of emails. You will get your Refund amount (if any) to your bank account (if you have mentioned it in your ITR) directly.
I had filed my return in July and have refund of 30000 inr. The status still shows as evc verified. I had filed itr1 as I’m a salaried employee with no additional income.
When will refund get processed n what can I do?
Dear EW..In most of the similar cases, tax assessees have already got their refund amounts. I am not sure what could be the reason in your case. You may have to wait for some more time I guess.
Hi,
I would like to know one question.. I have already uploaded my IT returns and sent the signed copy through General POST long back, but I didn’t receive any confirmation from IT Dept.

Dear Vishnuvardhan,

Dear Munaf…First you need to pay the tax dues (if any), upload the returns and generate ITRV / e-verify the returns.
Hi Mr. Srikant,
I filed my previous years ITR-1 (2014-15) online through SBI netbanking. While attempting to e-verify after uploading, it shows that No returns are pending for e-verification. I have to take a print out, sign and send it to CPC, Bangalore.
Is is that we cant e-verify previous years ITR-1? Pls advice.
My current years ITR-1 (2015-16) is filed online and also e-verified.
Dear Rajesh,
You may have to send physical copy of ITR V of AY 2014-16 ITR.
Hi Shrikanth,
I see the status of my revised ITR as successfully e-verified, When will I receive the refund?
Dear Sowmya..you may receive it in a couple of weeks.
Can i sent ITR V to CPC baglore instead of doing E verification ?
Yes you can dear Sambaraj..
Hi Srikanth,
Nice article. I have submitted by ITR5 on 20 July 2015 for year 2015-16 and the status is successfully e-verified. But i have not received my refund still. Can you please explain what is the time period to receive the refund or else how we can contact the income tax dep for this?

Dear Sir,
My phone number is not linked with ADHAR no. How can I e-varify my ITR-V by ADHAR
?
Dear Sushil..you may try generating EVC through Net-banking mode.
Dear Sir,

I’ve done EVC 31/08/2015
Pls advice what should I do.
I had a mistake in my tax paid section in my original form so I filled the revised form.
Original one was e-verified but now I am unable to generate EVC through HDFC bank and I am unable to use old EVC numer also
please advice what to do?
Dear Manish,
I am not sure about this. Suggest you to kindly send ITR v of both Returns to CPC Bangalore address.
I had a mistake in my tax paid section in my original form so I filled the revised form.
Although the original one is still not e-verified. Will I need to e-verify the original one even if it has a mistake?
Another question- Does revised form help in cases like this and in how many days will i know that the revised one is accepted?
Dear Vipul,
I am not very sure if to e-verify both the returns. Suggest you to first e-verify the latest return and check the ITR status.
Regarding status, generally within 2-3 weeks your ITR can be processed.
Only the original one has an option of e-verify.
The revised one isn’t showing any such option. It’s just displaying Return Uploaded, while original one has “Return uploaded, pending for e-verification”
Dear Vipul,
You may e-verify the first ITR.
Else, you have to mail the two ITRVs to CPC Bangalore address.
Dear Vipul,
As e-verification is a new procedure, as of now I do not have correct answer to your query.
You may e-verify the first ITR and then mail the ITR V of the second ITR.
Dear Vipul,
As e-verfication is a new procedure, I do not have right answer to your query.
You may e-verify the first ITR and mail ITR V of the 2nd ITR.
I Did the mistake while filling the form.. is it Ok if I file it again?
Dear Suni..Yes, you can file Revised return.
Hello Sir,
We have e filed for the fy 2014-15, but didn’t sent to CPC, although we have not e verified
Shall we sent today it will be processed now.
please help me out.
Dear Ramya..You can send ITR V copy to CPC within 120 days after the ITR filing. So, do not worry and you can mail it now.
plz guide me.
i had uploaded my return. i was about to e verify my uploaded return but i then realised that i had done mistake while calculating return. i hat to pay more Tax and i paid that much through challan(280). but that is not now getting reflected in my uploaded form. i had only one option i.e. e-verify and i had e-verified the uploaded form which was infact wrong and the amount paid in challan form is also not showing.
i tried the option “rectification” but it is not useful for me as those who so ever e verifies their return they get an EVC where as this rectification portion takes/ recognises the number begins with CPC/…
what should i do now? i tried to submit a fresh return but that is also not taking as its not original.
plz guide me friends..
Dear Tarak..Try filing ‘Revised Return’.
Sir,
I submit EVC successfully but the time of Return ITR-1 up lode, error the individual section code is wrong.kindly advice me.
Thanks

Dear Anupama,
You will receive it to your registered email id. You can also download it through e-filing website.
My account -> My Return..
sir, i fill my itr-V and my salary is belove 5 lakhs but i have 500 refund from itr. Should i able to e verify?
can i get refund amount after e verify?
Dear Nutan,
Try generating EVC through Aadhar or Net-banking and e-verify your ITR.
Hello Mr. Sreekanth,
Thanks so much for this post. I was struggling to generate EVC through netbanking. This post simplified the whole process for me.

Hi
Yesterday I filed my returns using a private site(taxspanner). They did some mistake and i haven’t e-verified that ITR. again my friend did ITR with revised option. In incometax portal, i am able to see both forms are required to e-verify. Do i need to e-verify through net banking for both ITR acknowledgement forms or latest revised ITR is enough?
Thanks,
Dear sunny..You can e-verify both . However, the IT dept will consider the latest one for processing.
While i am trying to e-verify my IT return using net banking (income above 5 lacs), with Allahabad bank net banking, there is no option of e-verify or login to e-filing portal in the Allahabad bank net banking facility.
Pl. advise how to e-verify?
Hi,
I am also facing the same issue while trying to e-verify using Allahabad Bank. Please do share the process if you were able to complete the e-verification. Much appreciate your help.
Thank you.
Dear Mr. Majmudar,
Kindly check with your banker or use other modes to generate eVC.
sir i have filed return of my uncle whose total income is less than 500000, he paid taxes thru salary deduction of amount 17860. I e verified it using Registered mobile number/email id..Am i Correct with this procedure..kindly help me to correct myself
Dear sharmila..Kindly check the status of your ITR .
Sir i have upload my ITR-V and i have E-VERIFY through Net banking & it is Verified. Can i send my ORIGINAL ITR-V with Signature to CPC Benagalur or not
Then no need to send ORIGINAL ITR-V to Banglore please
Dear BIJAY..Do not send ITR V, it is not required.
I have upload TDC return and e verified by netbanking and status showing EVC accepted. I want to ask how many days will require for TDS refund amount in my bank account.
Dear Ramdas..You may get withing few weeks.
Dear Sreekanth Reddy,
I’m facing a unique problem.. The Mobile number I registered with Aadhar earlier is not with me as that number got rolled out to other person by Airtel service provider as I was not using that number for quite some time..
Now I have to update my new Mobile number but online update option sends the OTP to the earlier registered number for verification. I have tried reaching out to that registered Mobile number to check if I can get help with the OTP details but no one is responding … Can you let me know how can I get the MOBILE NUMBER updated with AADHAR PORTAL
I can opt for everify with aadhar only when I have my current mobile number details are updated now
Regards,
Jagadish
Bangalore
Dear Jagadish..You can update your mobile number details on Aadhar portal. Check out this link :
Else, you can mail the ITR V physical copy to CPC Blr.
Sorry .. Please read my query again .. I DONT OWN THE NUMBER WHICH I HAVE REGISTERED EARLIER .. the OTP that gets generated will be sent to that old number which I cannot access ..
Regards,
Jagadish
To update details on the Aadhar portal, you need to have the registered mobile (its mandatory). In the absence of this mobile number, you will need to send the correction / update form manually –
How do I e-verify as I am stuck.
1) I am eligible for a refund so for me generating EVC through mobile/email address is not available.
2) I can verify via e-filling through net banking but unluckily my bank “YES BANK” is not listed there.
3) I don’t have an Aadhar as of now, so the 3rd option won’t work either.
Please tell me what to do ? (Please don’t tell me to take a print .. sign and send it to CPC Bangalore) 🙁
Dear Pawan..that’s the only option you have left with 🙂
hi, I have uploaded the file for return, but I could not complete the EVC in either modes, because iam getting
error while tried through aadhar, and I have not linked with PAN card hence I am getting error in net banking.
hence is there any way to change the e -verify to sending the same acknowledgement to CPC
Dear Venkat..You can mail the ITR V physical copy.
I am G.Seetaiah having more than 5 lacs taxable income and the necesary taxes are paid (TDS). I have E-filied the returns but not received the EVC code to my mobile no. What could be the reason for this. However my Spouse E-filing and EVC is completed sucessfully. Is there any income limit for getting the EVC. Kindly clarify
Dear Seetaiah,
No income limit as such. Try generating the EVC again.
How much time department is taking in processing ITR-4. Till last year they were taking minimum 3 months. Has it changed after introduction of EVC?
Dear Rajiv..I got to know that the ITRs (no refund – no demand ones) are getting processed in 7 days. E-verification does certainly speed up the ITR processing .
Thanks a lot for the tips to e-verify return from the ICICI Bank site. I just could not find a way to do this till I read your note above. I had filed my returns through Taxsmile but had wanted to verify through ICICI Bank portal. Thanks again. Much appreciated.
You are most welcome dear Madhav…keep visiting 🙂
I filled my return and there is my refund and my income is less than 5 lac.Can i e-verify on income tax portal to not send ITR-V to Bangalore.
Dear Haider,
You can e-verify it through your Net-banking facility.
Hi Mr. Sreekanth,
I have filed my returns through e-filing. I have shown my house rent in the e-filing which is not covered in Form-16, whether it will be considered while computing return by IT dept. or else what will be the consequence.
Dear Giridhar,
If you have shown it in your ITR and paid taxes (if any) accordingly then it won’t be an issue.
HI, very good article, it cleared all my doubts !!
Sir ,i have printed ITR v and posted to Bangalore…I have not done everifcation…Will there be any problem
Still on my log in it is writtem as e verification Pending
Dear Sunil..It wont’ be an issue.
Hi ,
I have submitted my IT about a month ago with all the steps and now the status is e-verified. Any idea still how many days/month that it will take to get the status as “ITR-Processed”?.
Dear Sundar,
Which ITR form have you submitted? when did you e-verify it?
I am observing that ITR1 which are e-verified are getting processed in 2 weeks.
Pending ITR-V/ E -verfication , i’ve already requected EVC through net banking , how much time does it take to generate EVC…
Dear Sharath..Withing few seconds/minutes it should be generated. You may try it out again or you can try generating EVC through other modes.
1) Which tax payers are compulsorily required to sign digitally ?
2)A tax payer who is required to sign digitally but do not sign and send ITR- V by mail, what will happen ?
3)Whether e-verification is required if ITR-V is sent by mail?
Dear Arabinda,
1 – E-filing with digital signature is mandatory for those with business income of Rs 1 crore or more and professionals with income of Rs 25 lakh or more.Digital Signature is mandatory for Individuals and Firms whose accounts are required to be audited u/s 44 AB.
2 – It the Return includes Digital signature then mailing the Physical copy of ITR V is not required. If the Income tax return is uploaded without digital signature, it is mandatory to send the ITR-V acknowledgement form to the CPC.
3 – E-verification or sending ITR V are not required if ITR is filed with Digital signature.
Sir,
I have a request to make. I filed my first return of life. I made a mistake, after TDS a tax of Rs 170 was payable which i paid through Axis Bank but this i did after filling return. So it is still showing Rs 170 to be payable but i have done that. So what is to be done now before e-verification.
Thank You
Dear DUSHYANT..you may file revised return.
SIR,
I am again trying to file. But at the time of submission it is saying only one original filling can be done under section 139(1). How to proceed now sir?
Dear DUSHYANT..You have to file ‘Revised Return’, if you are filing for same Assessment year.
I am a tax payer and my income is below 5.00 lakhs but I will get refund. Can I go for e verification
Dear Mr Rao..you can generate EVC and e-verify your ITR
Hi,
I have successfully e-verified my ITR. Could you please comment on below queries :
1) How much time it will take to process the refund?
2) Just out of curiosity 🙂 – what if someone after e-verifying the ITR sends the ack to CPC Bangalore ?
Dear Arhan,
1 – Since you have e-filed your returns, if everything is ok, you may receive the refund in couple of months. But there is timeline associated with it.
2 – I dont think it may cause any issue. But it is not required to send ITRV if ITR is e-verified.
Hi,
I have uploaded my ITR on https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and also e-verified it.
So now the status against my ITR is “Successfully e-Verified.” And when I click on the acknowledgement no, there are three statuses
1. Return uploaded
2. Successfully e-Verified
3. EVC Accepted
So I want to know what is “EVC Accepted” and what would be the further process for ITR processing and do I have to take any action here.
Need your help.
Dear Kiran…The ITR filing process is completed from your side. No action from your side is required.
Thanks for reply.
Will I be getting email or sms notification for ITR processed action from IT department? Or the status will remain Successfully e-verified only. And what does EVC accepted means?
Dear Kiran,
You will get intimation by email. You can also check the ITR processing status online on e-Filing website.
Dear Sir,
I have filed my return and pending e-verify my return. I would like to generate EVC through net banking(i have Vijaya Bank & SBM internet banking only).
Now my question is once login in net banking (SBM or Vijaya bank) what are the steps to generate EVC i.e link which tap which one to clink like that pls send the link wise steps pls.
Regards
Chiranjeevi
Dear Chiranjeevi,
I do not have interenet banking access to vijaya bank or SBM . Suggest you to look out for ‘Income Tax e-filing’ link after loggin to your banking account. Else you may contact their customer care.
Hi Sreekanth,
I am not able to find e-filling link through HDFC netbanking can you please help me out. Thanks in advance.
In e-filling home page I have selected login through netbanking option, then it opens a page where it has list of banks then I have selected HDFC Bank. Then it redirect to me HDFC netbanking page after that I can login my HDFC account, but from HDFC I cannot able to find any link which can take me to e-filling page again.
Hope you will understand my above query.
Ameer S
Dear Ameer,
Kindly first login to HDFC Net-banking website, left-hand side you can find option ‘ Request’, click on it. Select ‘Income Tax E-filing’ from the list.
You will be re-directed to IT e-filing website to generate EVC.
I completed my e verification through net banking, but after 24hr still i am getting pending e verification. Please help me.
Dear Akshata,
If you have completed the e-verification, status should be shown as ‘successfully e-verified’.
Suggest you to repeat the e-verification process again.
i have e verified throughaadhar otp on 5 aug also submitted form 10ba online on 7 aug. status/action shows on 8 aug is evc .acceped and refund not detrmined ,what may be problem.plz guide me.
Dear Rakesh,
That means ITR has not yet been processed. Do not worry, kindly wait for few more weeks and check the status.
HI,
Last year I filed my return and it was showing amount of Rs 60 to be refunded in ITR-V. But till date I have received it. When I check the status on the website its shows ITR processed and “no demand no refund”. Can you please help me why this is so? And when I check the “status of tax refunds” on TIN NSDL website it says
a. Your assessing officer has not sent this refund to Refund Banker.
b. If this refund has been sent by your Assessing Officer within the last week, you may wait for a week and again check status.
What should I do? Was there any mistake in my ITR or it is something else
Dear Anuj,
Generally, Tax refunds of less than Rs 100 are ignored by the IT dept.
EVC only for AY 2015-16 ONLY, WHAT ABOUT AY 2014-15 IS IT APPLICABLE OR NOT
Dear Jaya,
I believe it is not applicable.
Dear Sreekanth,
I have already filed my return and the status is also “Successfully e-Verified”. However I have not yet received my refund. When I tried to check the status of my refund on “https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html”, it is showing following:
a. Your assessing officer has not sent this refund to Refund Banker.
b. If this refund has been sent by your Assessing Officer within the last week, you may wait for a week and again check status.
Does it mean that I’ll not get refund?
Regards,
Rushin
Dear Rushin..kindly wait for few more days..once the ITR is processed, IT dept may send you the refund.

Respected Sir,
I made some mistake due to which i think i filled my itr-1 incorrectly. Also I e-verified it using aadhar mode. Please provide me guidance to rectify it online.
Thanks in advance
Dear Shivam..you may file revised returns through e-filing website and then e-verify it.
I am unable to generate ECV code. I chose Axis Bank for Net Banking but there is no link for EVC generation.
Dear Rahul..try other options, else you may post the physical copy of ITR V .
Dear sir,
I have submitted e-return but didn’t e-verify.Now I found some discrepancy in my return.
So,Can I again file the return.

Dear Rakesh,
You can file your revised returns and then e-verify the latest return.

It won’t be an issue dear Manpreet.
Dear Team,
For The Income Tax filing for Year 2014-15, Request for your kind suggestion.
I was previously working in Dubai from Jan 2013 to June, 2014. I shifted back to India in June, 2014. So, As part of my Full and Final settlements, I shifted all my savings made in Dubai during the months of July, 2014 and Aug, 2014 in Indian NRE account. The saving amount from Dubai transferred was around INR 6 lakhs.
My current salary in India is 15 Lakhs per annum. Also, I have FD’s from NRE account of around 10 lakhs.
Now, I am salaried employee in India since June, 2014 onwards.
Please suggest on the below:
1. Which Income Tax form should I fill.
2. How to prevent taxation on my income savings from Dubai ?
3. How to show the savings done in Dubai during previous year in the Income Tax forms. Looking forward to your response.
Best Regards,
Saurabh
Dear Saurabh,
If you have only salary income, ITR form 1 is applicable.
Kindly read my articles on : Tax deductions list for FY 2015-16.
& NRI Taxation rules.
Hi
I have uploaded my ITR form for e-verification but later realized that some rectification is needed in the form. I can’t see any option to cancel the e-verification process of already uploaded ITR form . Do I have to fill up the ITR form again and resubmit it? Pls. guide.
P.S.-I didn’t complete e-verification process with EVC/Aadhaar.
Dear Tanmoy,
You have to file a ‘rectification request’ or ‘revised return’ based on your case and then you can e-verify again.
It shouldn’t be an issue.
Thanks for your reply. I have tried to file ‘rectification request’ but it is asking for latest communication number. But I can see only acknowledgement number. Please let me know if I am missing something.
Dear Tanmoy,
Do you want to change your ‘income details’? (In that case, you have to file ‘Revised return’)
Errors that can be rectified under section 154(1) – An error of fact, an arithmetic mistake, or a small clerical error or error due to overlooking compulsory provisions of law. Some examples are – A mismatch in tax credit, Advance Tax mismatch, gender mentioned incorrectly, or additional details not submitted for capital gains at the time of filing return. A pre-requisite to file a ‘rectification request’ is – The Income Tax Return for the Assessment Year should have been processed and after receiving ‘communication reference number’ from IT dept.
I believe you can file ‘revised return’ as your ITR is not yet processed by IT dept.
Hello,
I’ve successfully e-verified the returns. I should get a refund of rs 10000. So should i send the physical copy to CPC Bangalore? In eFiling website its showing refund status as “Not Determined”, what dose that mean?
Regards
Prem
Dear Prem,
If you have e-verified then you do not need to send ITR V.
Status ‘not determined’ means your ITR is not processed by the IT dept. Once they process it and approve then they may release the Refund amount or they may ask you to pay tax dues (if any)..You may have to wait for few months to know the updated status..
This is excellent! I filled my ITR-2.
Is EVC and Form 26AS same? When i login through net banking, it asks me to confirm my PAN details and direct me to https://services.tdscpc.gov.in; where i can generate Form 26AS. So do i have to upload Form 26AS in https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in?
how do login to filling using Allahabad bank net banking????????
Dear subhamoy..Login to your netbanking site and check out if there is a link to “Income tax e-filing” website. Click on it. This will re-direct to EVC generation page, wherein you can generate EVC.
i am using ICICI net banking
Dear Amey,
I have used ICICI net-banking to get the screen print of the EVC options. I have updated the article with the same.
I submitted ITR-1 for A Y 2015-16 on 29.07.2015 and revised it on the same day due to a small mistake. I e verified the revised ITR through net banking option. Shall I e verify the original ITR also ?
Dear Rao,
I believe that it is not required. (But i m not 100% sure on this)
Original return shall also needs to be e-verified, reason being once return filed it needs to be verified then only we revise a return. There is no harm in verifying original return.
My form 26 AS shows total amount paid Rs 1250500 which is my gross salary. From my this salary a Professional Tax of Rs 2500 has been deducted by my Gov. Employer. Now if I show my income from salary as Rs 124800 ie. 1250500-2500 ,in col B1 of ITR 1,it will not match with the amount shown in form 26AS. In itr1 there is no any provisin to show this exeption to clear this amount.Income tax department may calculate taking Rs 1250500 as income from salary and may rais income tax payable.I have paid self assessment tax taking salary income as 224800. Kindly advice how to show Professional tax in itr1 .This problem may be with so any other incom tax return filler. Thanking you. B Yadav.
Dear Mr Yadav,
That should not be an issue.
My income is less than Rs. 5 lakhs for AY 2015-16. There is refund to the tune of Rs. 1430. I have filled up my return online my return has to be E-verified.
I understand that if the income is less than Rs. 5 lakhs and there is refund, the ITR has to be E-verified through net banking only. But unfortunately, I do not have net banking. Under the circumstances, I am unable to E-verify my ITR.
What should I do now? Take a printout of ITV 5 and send it to Bangaluru or is there is any other way out?
Regards,
Reema
Dear Reema,
What bout ATM or Aadhar card modes?
Else, you may have to post the ITR V to CPC blr.
Dear Sreekanth,
The EVC code in case of income less than 5 lakhs and refund works only through net banking. EVCs generated through all other modes Aadhar card are not accepted.
I think in the absence of netbanking, I will have to send physical copy of my ITR 5 to CPC Bangaluru.
Many thanks,
Reema
for ay 2015-16: I have a refund to get from IT dept., and i have uploaded my form. what option do i need to use for E-verify. Is it ok if i do not e-verify and send the signed form to CPC.
Please reply asap
Dear vishala,
Yes you can send the physical copy of ITR V . E-verification is an option provision. If you have refund, you may opt for netbanking/atm/aadhar modes to generate EVC.
I filled a revised ITR after I found some mistakes in the original ITR. I have e-verified the
revised ITR. Do I need to e-verify the original ITR also ?
Dear Akash…I do not think it is required.
for ay 2015-16 : i have pension + bank fd interest and sb interest, my wife has bank fd interest which is to be clubbed with my fd interest. Bank has recovered TDS from Interest on FD. Which ITR Form Ihave to use?
Pl guide; Thanks
Dear Suhas,
ITR1 is applicable.
What does the term “total income” mean? Is it the income before deductions under 80C etc. or the Taxable income after all eligible deductions? My taxable income after deductions is less than 5 lakhs but gross income is more than 5 lakhs. Can I obtain OPT through aadhar linkage with PAN on my email (not on mobile since I am abroad where my mobile number will not work) and send verification online?
Further, if my e-filing of ITR has been done through a TRP, will he also have a role to play for online verification?
Thanks.
Dear Rangarajan,
Ideally it should be total income before deductions, but as i said, the notification is not very clear on this.
Since you have filed your return through a CA, suggest you to check with him/her too about this.
(If you use Aadhar based EVC, i think the EVC/OTP is sent to the registered mobile only. As suggested try out ‘efiling’ website method.)
In such situations, for the benefit of all honest payers, the Inst. of CA or Assn of CAs should take up with the Ministry or the CBDT and get clarity on contentious and ambiguous issues. In my view, there should not be any cap of 5 lakhs for such a simple procedure to verify your IT return. It results in adding more problems.
Dear Rangarajan,
Agree with your views. Indian tax law is like that.
Sir,
I have submitted the FY 2015-16 ITR- I with net refund. But I am not able to generate the EVC in any of the ICICI Bank ATMs in SECTOR-18, 61, 62 , as the bank ATMS do not have EVC Generation option.
Please help me locating enabled ATM of ICICI or State Bank of Hyderabad in NOIDA or nearby.
Thanks & Regards,
S K KAUSHIM
Dear KAUSHIK,
You may try net-banking mode.
I have uploaded ITRV, I have refund, but not having Net banking facility, then by sending signed hard copy to CPC, will I get refund ? Do I need other mode of E verification?
Dear Saji,
If you have Aadhar then link it with PAN and can generate EVC, else you may Post the physical copy of ITRV.
Sir,
Income is >500000 and expected refund. In what method is used to get EVC to verify my return?
Netbanking or Aadhar or ATM modes can be used.
Sir, U r article is good, but i have some doubts pl. clarify the same
1. Income is 500000 and expecting refund. In what method is used to get EVC to verify my return?
3. Income is >500000 and no refund. In what method is used to get EVC to verify my return?
Dear SREENIVASULU,
1 – Netbanking or Aadhar or ATM modes
2 – Netbanking or Aadhar or ATM modes
Hi Sreekanth,
Thanks for sharing this wonderful information.I have successfully e-verified my ITR but i have a question when will the amount be credited to my account?
Dear Sumithra,
You may have to wait for few months to get your refund amount. Tax assessees who file their ITRs online, generally get income tax refunds quickly .
Sir, I want to know if income less than 5 lakh and there is refund then EVC will work or not and which link
Dear vijendra,
Generate EVC through netbanking/ATM/Aadhar modes.
EVC PROCEDURE IS COMPULSORY OR WE CAN SEND TO BLR AS SEND PRIORLY ANY PROBLEM IF EVC NOT GENERATED . CAN YOU GIVE ME SUGGESSION IF MY ITR REFUND IS PENDING SO LONG WHICH I HAVE NOT RECD. EVEN DONE RECTIFICATION REQUEST SO MANY TIMES ( AMT. IS ALREADY REFLECTED IN 26AS) WHAT TO DO ?
Dear Hansa.. E-verification of ITR is not compulsory. It is an optional provision.
Dear Sreekanth,
I have submitted ITRV and also verified electronically (via e-filing through net banking) and I Rs 4000 to claim as refund for the investment I made after my office payroll cut off date, Since I am not suppose to send ITR V copy to Banglore, How IT dept will verify my addtional investment of 20000 (for which I am claiming 4000 refund)
Please provide your input
Dear Ritesh,
Even the documents that you submit to your company are not shared with Income Tax department. Remember, an individual has to do ‘Self assessment’ and file the income tax returns, that’s it. If there are any discrepancies etc., IT dept may issue notices or ask for explanations (that time the tax assessee should submit or show all the valid investment proofs)
EVC Code is mandatory in all below mention cases & if i send the ITR-V to banglore.
When the EVC code gnerated before return & or after return.
1)Income is below Rs 5 Lakh and Refund,
2)Income is below Rs 5 Lakh and NO Refund,
3)Income is above Rs 5 Lakh and Refund,
4)Income is Below Rs 5 Lakh and NO Refund,
I file return on 21/07/2015 on IT site income is 378000/ & refund claim 920/– & generate today EVC code but i same entered in IT side for verification of return than screen display mismatch code.
How can resolve this matter.
Dear NATHURAM,
What is the mode through which you generated the EVC?
if income more than 5 lac and refund available so can I generate EVC code?
Dear Anil,
Yes, you can generate using Net-banking or ATM or Aadhar modes.
Thanks for the information.. Its was very useful…
I am using Citibank which is not listed for EVC netbanking and since my salary is above 5 lakh, the EVC generated using email/mobile is showing as not valid. I have not received the ITR form now.
Please suggest
Dear Gowri,
Try through Aadhar link, if you have..
I do not have Aadhar now. So the only option left is courier. The netbanking account which we give for verification, does it need to be our salary account or we can give any other personal account? can i use my brother’s netbanking for e-verification?
Dear Gowri,
It need not be a salary account. I have provided the list of banks that are providing this provision.
I do not think you can use your brother’s account as PAN mismatch will happen.
Thank you very much for the answers . Sreekanth Reddy.
This blog was very helpful
It is compulsory to evarify return …can I send hard copy to cpc
Dear Nirav,
E-verification of ITR is an optional provision. Yes, you can send hard copy of ITR V to CPC.
I have e-filled ITR by e-verification. I have refund. But if I don’t send ITR-V copy to CPC then how they can get information about saving for which refund will be credited. Please let me know this?
Dear Anup,
Your e-verification is as good as sending ITR V copy to CPC. Are you referring to Savings bank a/c ?
The refund amount will be credited to the bank account that you might have mentioned in your ITR.
Thank you very much for posting such a wonderful article.
Keep visiting dear Snehal 🙂
Dear Sreekanth,
Thank you very much for posting such a wonderful article and providing selfless services to others.
I accidentally clicked ‘Generate EVC’ and the same has been generated even though I have yet to file the return. Can you please tell me if I can regenerate EVC after expiry of 72 hrs.
Thanks,
Binod Khandelwal
Dear Binod,
You can generate EVC multiple times.
Thanks a lot!
Your post on EVC and ITR filing related topics helped me a lot in filling ITR-2, which I was quite fearful of considering the various schedules contained in it. Especially your article on EVC is bang on time.
Regarding generation of EVC, I was confused with the statement (Only one EVC can be used to validate one ITR of the assessee irrespective of the Assessment Year or Return filing type (ie original or revised returns) in your article.
Dear Binod,
Thank you for your kind words.
Clarification – The assesse can generate multiple EVCs, but can use one EVC to e-verify and once it is done, can not use any more EVCs to e-verify that ITR. Also, the EVC can be used for original (regular) return verification and also for ‘Revised Returns’ .
Dear Sreekanth,
Thank you for being so prompt in reply.
Can you throw some light on tax treatment with regard to interest on Savings A/C. There is a lot of confusion w.r.t Sec 80TTA. Is the interest earned exempted or deductions available on it? Can I show it as exempt income?
Kindly post detailed information for Sec 80TTA or if its already there in your blog, pl provide the link as I could not find it here.
Regards,
Binod Khandelwal
Dear Binod,
The interest earned on Savings A/cs are exempted up to Rs 10,000. Do note that the deduction is restricted to Rs 10,000 or actual interest whichever is lower. The account can be held at bank / post office / co-operative society bank.
This deduction is over and above the section 80c Rs 1.5 Lakh limit. This section is applicable from AY 2013-14.
Hi Sreekant,
one more query – i have downloadedthe ITR V from income tax site , in status coloumn it was writtten Return uploaded, pending for ITR V/ e verification. there will be no problem if i will send it to banglore. what does pending for ITR V means?
Dear Divya,
It means that your ITR has been successfully uploaded, but pending item is that you have to either send ITR V form to CPC address or e-verify your Returns, to complete the entire process.
pleass reseat my EVC passward
I want to know the process of EVC as per income (e.g if the income is 500000 and no refund or more than 500000 with refund)
Dear Priyanka,
1) If income is > Rs 5 Lakh and expecting Refund, then the assessee can use all other available options to generate EVC except the option “Generate EVC on e-filing website’. (Other options like Netbanking, ATM & Aadhar modes can be used)
2) If income is less than Rs 5 Lakh and no refund, then Assessee can use any of the available modes to generate EVC.
Dear sir,
I have filed my return and wish to claim for refund. I am below 5 lakh taxpayer. Pl suggest me, except net baning EVC, which one option for claiming refund is suitable for me for e verification. Waiting for your valuable reply, thank you.
Dear Manish,
If you have Aadhar, go ahead and link it to your PAN, and generate the EVC.

Dear Dharmendra..You may get the refund in few months.
Hi,
One more query ….like i have uploaded the return but e verification is pending can i still send the acknowledgement to banglore n not e verify return?is this possible.
Dear Divya,
E-verification of ITR is an optional provision. You can still send ITR V acknowledgment by post to CPC Bangalore address.
Thanks a tonn Sreekanth 🙂
hi,
I have successfully uploaded my husband’s return but e verification is pending. When i uploaded the return i got 4 options out of which i opted for 1st option but later on i got to know that this option is for those who hav income which is less than 5 lacs n no refund but my case is opposite refund is due n income is greater than 5 lacs. My second problem is my husband is out of india so mobile no.is not working so can’t opt for 2nd and 3rd option .
Is it possible that 4th option is made open again for me? i think EVC is valid for 72 hrs after dat can dat 4th option be made available to me again.
Hi,
I followed all the steps and was able to download the acknowledgement. But i am not able to do e-verify. Though i entered correct evc which i received through email. The error says ‘Invalid EVC. Please use valid evc generated through net banking.’ Is it known problem? What do i have to do now?
Thanks.
Dear Sandeep,
Are you expecting any REFUND? How did you generate EVC? (Which mode)
Hi,
Yes i am expecting refund. I used “Generate Evc mode” which will send the code to my mail and mobile. I cant generate EVC through net banking because ‘citi’ bank isn’t listed there. I guess i have to post the acknowledgement to IT office and get refund like the usual way we followed last year.
Dear Sandeep,
If you have Aadhar card, you may link it to your PAN and then generate EVC. Else, you may post the ITR V manually.
dear Srikanth,
I have generated EVC thru incometax website, but my employer not yet given my form-16. if generated EVC will lpase after 72 hours, any chance to re-generate EVC. pl reply.
Dear satya,
Did you already file your Tax returns?
You can generate EVC multiple times.
Hi Sreekanth,
Thanks for the information. Very helpful! I have a query w.r.t e-verification.
I have filed ITR-V today and have generated EVC vis NetBanking option and the status of the submission is successfully verified. I have got acknowledgement for the same to my email id.However,I have some amount as refund. Will it be directly credited to my account or there is any action pending from my end?
Dear Akshatha,
You will get the refund in few months to the bank account that has been provided in the Returns form.
Thanks so much for the information:)
sir
we have some tech. labour. they hav’nt any e-mail. some of them want to claim refund. they don’t know how to send e-return. pl. suggest –
– can they fill itr 1 offline?
– can i fill bulk itr ?
– how many itr is allowed to send with one registered e-mail.
Dear Rajendra,
Suggest you to kindly consult a CA.
What are the conditions of income to generate EVC through different modes.
Dear Charanjit,
Where the total income as per ITR is Rs 5 Lakh or below and there is no Refund claim, you (assessee) can generate an EVC one the E-filing website.
Apart from this, there are no conditions as such ..
Dear Sreekanth, please tell me is it mandatory to e-verify the ITR for AY 2015-16. Because many assessee does not have Net banking facility, Aadhar Card or even ATM Card. But the assessee claims refund amount. Then what to do?
Thanks in advance
Dear Kaushik,
E-verification is an optional provision. The Assessee can still has an option to send ITR V to CPC Bangalore address.
Hi,
I got my EVC code through “generate EVC” option. But, When I try to enter the EVC code , its throwing an error like INVALID. Now, What should I do?
Dear Sakthivel,
You may generate one more EVC and try it again.
Hi Sreekanth,
Can you please explain the procedure to e-verify already uploaded return if I want to e-verify through my Net Banking Account ?
Awaiting your reply.
Dear Sunil,
Log in to your netbanking and check if your banker has provided any link related to income tax. If so, you may click on that and you will be redirected to e-filig website and there you will be given an option to generate EVC. The EVC will be sent as an SMS to your registered mobile number. Login to e-filing website and click on e-file menu and click on ‘e-verify’. Key in the EVC by clicking ‘option 1’ ie ‘I have EVC..’.
Thanks for your early reply of my query. But, I want to know further the steps after clicking e verify link in my net banking account. I have read that clicking on e verify link in my net banking account is sufficient to complete the process. OTP is not required. Is it true ? Pl clarify.
Dear Sunil,
You will receive EVC on your mobile, that code you need to key in to e-verify your Tax returns.
Dear Sir,
If a person having some refund and he doesn’t have Aadhar Card and No Net Banking then how he can e-Verify his return?
Dear Preetam…the Assessee can check out using ATM card . Else, he/she can mail the physical copy of ITRV.
Thanks for the post Sreekanth 🙂 I have successfully e-verified my ITR. I need 2 clarifications.
1. As I have sent the ITR-V through normal post yesterday, e-verify will be a problem?
2. The status online says e-verified, what is the time taken for the ITR to be processed? Usually I used to get it done through a CA who used share the copy of the ITR. This year as I have done it online, wanted to know what are the other things that needs to be taken care.
Many thanks in advance!
Regards,
Vivek B K
Dear Vivek,
1 – It shouldn’t be an issue.
2 – It varies..you will get an email / intimation regarding the ‘ITR status’. You may also check the status online on e-filing website. You will see status as ‘refund sent’ or ‘tax due’ or ‘no refund or no outstanding amount’ . Track the status after a couple of months.
I have filied my itr with out evc, what is
Next step sir
